I was watching something on the Speed Channel and they said that the Indy 500 and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb were the two oldest organized professional automotive races in the US. Found that very interesting. I think the Indy 500 is the oldest.

That sounds about right. the indy 500 started in the 30s or 40s i believe, which is around the time the Pikes Peak Climb started. I dont know which is older, though i think the Indy 500 is like you said.

Actually the first Indy 500 race was in 1911. They used it as a testing ground for new cars before that.
