I have a SuperCard DS One. It works well, and I've only run into a couple programs that wouldn't run on it.

One thing to note is that the M3 and R4 cards are the same. They have slightly different firmware, but are interchangeable (if you buy one, you can convert it to the other).

I bought my DSone from the Supercard Store (supercardstore.com) but it appears to be down right now. Most of the manufacturer's websites will recommend online retailers to buy from...prices don't differ enough to get picky. Usually the standby online retailers will offer bundles with a nice-sized microSD card and card reader/adaptor. They often use cheaper SD card brands, but not always (my DSone came with a nice Kingston SD card and both microSD reader and micro-to-full SD adaptor).

Really, it's all down to what you prefer in the interface. All are nearly identical in function.

Also, which version of DS do you have, original or lite? Keep that in mind while shopping as some bundles (like the basic M3 bundle I see most often) have a DS Lite rumble pak included. It won't work in the classic DS (but the classic rumble pak works in the Lite).

Another thing to keep in mind is that a new DS model (dubbed the DSi) will be hitting stores sometime next summer. It will see huge upgrades on the firmware and hardware front and supposedly will not be compatible with current flash cards (but will still play all official games). But for only ~$25 for a flash card it's not a big loss even if you do plan on upgrading.

As you might have guessed, this is for one of my sons. He has a DS Lite. He "says" he's not interested in a DSi.

I'll keep my eye out for supercardstore.com to come back on line, but if anyone has any other suggested sites, let me know.

How big of microSD card would you guys recommend?

I'm not surprised about the first comment. The DSi's lack of GBA slot is going to turn a lot of people away. I'm going to buy one, but it'll complement my current Lite, not replace it.

I'm using a 1GB and it's okay, but I end up swapping data and folders around on it. It was enough for a while, but once I really got into using the device it started to become limiting. I'd go for a 2GB if possible. 1 won't be horrible, but 2 will be more convenient. And 2GB cards are cheap now, so why not. Newer DS flash cards support SDHC, too, so you can go up to 8GB if you want. Just make sure you're not buying an older one that doesn't support SDHC if you want to go bigger than 2GB.
