ive heard these rumors many times also. the conclusion i came to is its cheaper/easier to just get a RB25 transmission.

ever seen a GTR trans? the center diff is HUGE. there would be some serious modification needed to fit it under a 240sx.

found this

waste of money and time. It's a good transmission, but it weighs quite a bit and you have to cut the transmission tunnel out of your 240sx and reweld another tunnel. The RB25 transmission has the same internals as the 300zx and can withstand over 700hp and has more then just a few times, so I don't think you have to worry the RB25 transmission. Also you can use the same clutch and flywheel as the 300zx NA, but with the GTR transmission you are going to be spending quite a bit of money just for a clutch setup.

i've heard that the rb25 transmission is a bit fragile...also the r34 gtr trany has better gear ratios...i also like the thought of a 6 gear...

other than that, a friend of mine drove my car and broke my 3'rd in my sr transmission, so i'm afraid it'll happen again with the 25 one, we don't have any replacement parts in israel, and it takes 3 weeks for the parts to arrive from the us..

also i couldn't find a better transmission for the 25, i found plenty for the 26, i have an offer for an hks gearbox for the 26 for 2500$... and i thought it'll be worth it if i could make it fit...

i'm afraid of breaking a gear again

The 25 transmission is much better than the KA/SR, so you should be fine. You can fit the 26 transmission but plan on cutting.

Did anyone else see the RB26 transmission next to the 1965~ Mustang and get some ideas.I bet an RB26 would fit

well, i did a little searching and i found 2 therories about it...one is to cut the transmission tunnel on the bottom of the car...and the other, that sounded a bit more sane to me, is to disassembel the middle diff', and cut it's bulge in the transmission housing, and the weld a piece there...sounds like it could work...

i've also noticed that there's a user here on nico with an s13 with a 26 transmission... maybe he could enlighten this a bit?

You do not NEED an RB26 transmission.. trust me. Have you seen an RB25 trans or its internals? They're beef.

That would be me. Only reason I am using the 26 trans is because people are jacking up the rb25 trans prices. Who knows if the 25 trans has been ragged out? Everyone knows they are not worth the price they are getting. So... I am not about to bend over for anyone. Kinda funny how an rb26 trans on ebay won't sell for $50 but some sucker will pay $1000 for the 25 trans. Still can't fugure that out.

Its not to bad to install . I had to cut a hole in the floor board just infront of the passengers seat on the tunnel area. Luckily I got the trans mount with the motorset. Used a 3/8"x 6" piece of flat steel to make a solid mount for the trans mount to blot onto. I filled it up the other day with trany oil. The front section and the rear section are individually sealed. Which means that oil will not come out of the front driveshaft hole. It is a good idea to block off the front drivesaft hole and put a little oil in the rear section. The driveshaft locks up in gear and is free in neutral. I don't see why it won't work. The hydraulic actuator port needs to be pluged. The r32 rb26dett had a speedo cable. So get the gauge cluster and speedo cable if you can. I have the clutch line hooked up already and the clutch works fine. Be sure to get the slave cylinder with the engine. You will need custom driveshaft made with a slip. Mine cost me $250. Everthing on it is new and the u joints are aftermarket replaceable type. OEM U joints are not replaceable. I am doing several things out of the normal .

Any pictures of the area that's been cut out? I'd like to see what kind of damage you'd have to do for fitting the GTR box... hmm.

I am working on the patch pannel. I'll prime the bare metal then rivet the panel in place and use some seam sealer. Heres a pic i took a while back. Since then I have notched it some more on the back side of the dog leg.

Whoa!! That really isn't too bad! I was thinking it would interfere a bit more into the floorboard instead of the trans tunnel.

What mounts are you using?? The shifter is ligned up perfect!

I wonder.. hmmm.. this seems like a good idea for some people, maybe someone could fab some plates and sell them for the people who want to keep the RB26 box.. drilling and riveting is F'n easy, esp if you have a plate already made for it.

Yea its not too bad. I am using mounts my friend made. They are similar to Mckinneys. My motor sits a little bit more fwd than Mckinneys does. I also would like to see there be another trany route. Instead of having to junk the rb26 trans (because so and so doesn't make a kit for it) use it instead of having to buy the rb20/25 trans (if you want a 5 spd). Thats my mentality. I have a perfectly good trans here why not use it... Cause so and so said it cost alot... this and that... f*ck that... This is my car and I build it how I want it, and is pretty far from the normal Rb26 swap.
