RB25 coming in soon but i am now in the market for a new rear diff. Saw an R33 rear diff and wondered if it'd bolt up into a 95 240sx without any fab work. Would i benefit from a R33 rear or just buy another 240 rear cuz a R33 rear would make a difference? BTW the one on there now is cracked and leaking oil ...pics if you want em'

You can use a R33 differential, but you must retain the S14 rear cover.

What gear ratio differential are you looking at?

And i don't know what kind of diff's the S-chassis have over here, but in japan the have the same garbage V-LSD that the Skylines had (unless you got the weird active diff which you couldn't use anyways). It's likely not going to be an upgrade---except for the gear ratio. That R33 diff might be a 4.10 or 4.37 depending on the transmission that was in the skyline.

So its not really worth it? Thats what im pulling from this. The cost is about the same between the two so i kind of figured that the difference was gonna be small.

I'm also pretty sure the axles are different between the S-chassis and the R. So while you can get the rear end to bolt in I think you would need the axles as well (which isn't a bad thing since I think the 5x1s are actually a little stronger anyways).

But yes basic premise is there is nothing special about the R33 rear end as it has very close gear ratios to the silvia, and has the same s***ty VLSD. Only thing slightly better I think is the output shafts and axles.

CJ,

USDM S-chassis use the R200 series differentials.

I forgot to note that if switching to an R33 diff, you will need the matching axles. S-chassis use the weaker 6-lug, where as the R-chassis use 5-lugs.

You can use that differential with the older Infiniti J30 axles, I think 1992-1994 IIRC. I used a Z32 NA 5-bolt diff with those axles, works perfect (or atleast as good as an old VLSD will work).......

Yup the early J30 axles are 5x1 that fit the s-chassis.

another shameless plug I have a set of those axles available if someone is interested. Mine are even from a skyline! (not that it matters)

Essentially yes.The later model J30 rear end will be a 100% bolt in affair. And will use the stock axles.

If he decides to go with the R33 rear end then he will need to use different axles like the early model J30 axles or r33 axles. The only upside to going this route is that the axles/output shafts will be a little stronger
