So i know the history behind the whole motorex saga/ nhsta etc...

here is my question, i live in a place where emissions are not required, im not clear on if its still possible to register R33? This is assuming i hypothetically shipped the car in kit form to this country.

or am i better off just prowling the forums on here and zilvia for a R32/r33 to come up?

thanks, mainly just wondering how it plays out if emissions arent required.

Just because you live in a city/state that doesn't have smog/emissions checks doesn't mean the car doesn't have to be OBD II compliant.

The R33 is eligible for importation (1996-1998 models), and the NHTSA has released the information for the modifications that has to be done for the body/chassis.

Bringing in a car in "kit" form is just a way around, but still not legal.

Many members that own Skylines in the states have done this, and are perfectly happy doing so.

We encourage you to really read up on all the posts and the article that can be found here, http://www.nicoclub.com/articl...shtml before taking any action importing one.

We never say don't do it, we just want the prospective buyers/owners to be aware of what could happen and to understand what some RI's or other importing companies may tell you in regards to "legalizing" your future purchase.

It's a topic that has been discussed many times over, and there is lots of good information in this forum.

IIRC, a kit car must have at least 60% or more of the parts on the car not be from the same company.

For example, if you were to bring in a 1992 Skyline GT-R with no motor or transmission, the body, chassis, suspension, exhaust, bolts, etc. would still be assmbled/fabricated by Nissan Motor Corp. Which would still be at more than 60%.

I am not 100% sure if this info is correct, but I had a talk about this with a guy that did a lot of research on it a few years ago.

I'll try to get in touch with him to find out where he got his info.
