ive done some searching on this, and i havnt been able to find the answer im looking for. maybe you guys can help me out with this or direct me to a thread that has already covered this? sorry if this is a repost.

i have an r32 gts-t vlsd installed and i notice my gearing is definitly different. i can be scooting along on the freeway at cruising speed when i look down at my speedo and im going 100mph??! i was wondering if there is a way to return my speedo to its accurate reading without getting rid of the vlsd.

are you actually going 100mph or is that just what your speedo says with the flow of traffic? you could probably swap the s13 ring and pinion into the r32 diff or vice versa, or get new speedo gears from courtesy parts.

isn't the r32 geared longer? if that's the case then you would be going faster than the speedo said.

im pretty sure im going slower than what my speedo says. ive driven next to a friend at the same speed who said he was going 50mph when my speed told me i was doing 60-63.

S13/S14: 4.083R32 Gts-t: 4.30

im pretty new to cars so im not toooo clear on what those mean. do the bigger numbers mean shorter gearing or longer?

If you want to just sell your ring and pinion or just trade one for a 4.01 (stock s13) let me know. I have an extra pumpkin laying around that I can pull the parts off of.

Swapping these items onto your vlsd will give you the stock gearing.

the skyline is geared shorter than the s13. higher numbers mean shorter gearing, quicker acceleration, and higher revs at a given speed.

lower numbers mean the car has a higher top speed and the gears are spread farther apart.

i personally would take some of these offers for a trade, though you should know the r32 gearing is more valuable than the stock gearing.

4.083? Wow! What are the gear ratios in the transmission? I'm used to mid 3's for an average car. And then does anyone know what the gear ratios are for a 350Z 6Spd?

thanks for all the great feedback everyone. i think im gonna have to pass on all the offers for trades and stuff. i stil have my open diff lying around, so i can swap parts back in if i wanted. is there a way to get the speedo to work with the r32 gearing?

many thanks cdlong for explaining the gearing thing, and being so informative with the value of the r32 gearing. i really appreciate it.
