As far as reliability goes...it's hard to beat the old toyotas. IMO, Nissan could have done a better job with the electrical systems in their older cars.

I think out of the box performance, the 2JZ is much stonger and more reliable than the RB26. The 2JZ came stock with a metal head gasket and forged internals. With the RB, you have to look aftermarket for that. That's the only thing that pisses me off with Nissan. Oh yeah, the high price of everything sucks too.

skyline might be called the "godzilla" only because of power and potential.. but that doesnt tell me anything about quality and what not about the car as a daily driven car

All three of my rb20det's have treated me much better than my jzx81.

I know you said 2j, but that was still an old toyota.. And replacing the cpu every month got old real fast..

The 1j/2j are more bulletproof out of the box, but with care and tuning the RB still owns me...

the car its self yes is reliable but for the motors they are just like any other motor you just need to keep up on maintance. Like coil packs spark plugs and such.

Well, I may not have a Skyline, but it's close. The drive train is all Skyline and for the most part, it runs pretty damn good for being 16 years old, 122,XXX kilometers, and getting abused once and again on the highways.

I only have experience with the 20, so take it for what it's worth.

It's also one of the smoothest engines I have ever had the pleasure of owning. This engine feels much smoother than the 4g63 I had in my eclipse, and it just feels like it wants to pull all the way to the end of the RPM range. And of course, the sound is fantastic.
