YES, there is a difference.....

R32 came with a RB20 so mounts are angled>>> "V "shaped like a KA

R33 came with a RB25 so mounts are flat.... KInd of "L" shaped.

Hope this helps.

thanks grumpy one more quick question, is there any diffrence in the way the engine is positioned in the bay?

why?i have a rb25 with a rb20 transmission and am gonna use the r33 crossmember so i can HOPEFULLY use the stock driveshaft to save a few bucks/headaches/downtime

I am not sure on how the engine sits in the engine bay since we do not use the crossmember. Thats all you............

As for the transmission, I am pretty sure the RB20 will not bolt up to the RB25 block. If you place them side by side there is a huge difference. The RB20 looks just like a KA transmission and the RB25 looks hugh compared to them.

Also, I am not sure if the input shafts are the same or the clutch.

If all fails and you need a RB25 transmission let me know. I have 5 extra ones.

megala said alot of people use the 20 transmission because they are cheaper than 25 ones and other people have also said it bolts up without a problem. so we will see

thanks anyway grumpy!

anyone else can jump in and verify those findings if they want :D

I did some checking and you were right. The RB20 DOES bolt up to the RB25 block. Sorry about the misinformation.

My only other worry is that, since you are using the stock crossmember and we know it moves the shifter forward with the RB25 transmission. The RB20 is shorter then the RB25, so how much more will it move?????

im not sure whats gonna happen...i didnt think the rb25 crossmember moved the engine forward, i just thought the interior was a diffrent layout so the shifter dosent appear to fit as well..

but if that is the case wouldnt you hear about the stock shifter sitting funny with the rb20 trannies on rb25's?

does anyone know if there is any mounting position diffrence between the r32 and r33 crossmembers? (meaning forwards, baskwards, etc)

i think that will answer the question.

Ok so the R33 crossmember has the mounts located on the FRONT of the crossmember, does the r32's have them in the same position? or are they more KA like in the rear of the crossmember?

well i may have answered my own question, this is taken from the UH FAQ

Quote »From what we have seen, the R32 crossmembers do bolt in to S13s. We don't like doing this with our installs for many reasons...

...2) Placement of the engine with the stock crossmember puts the motor too far forward and too high. With the stock crossmember and intake manifold, the hood has to be modified and it is impossible to fit a front strut tower bar. The placement of the engine also makes it difficult to fit a set of fans on the back of the radiator for proper cooling, although a single fan can probably provide the needed cooling capacity. The shifter also sits too far forward.[/quote]Sooooo by that logic the r32 crossmember should have the same mounting position as the r33 and the shifter should work without a hitch...

grumpy works for mckinney motorsports, so its a mckinney driveshaft ;)

if you are on a tight budget, the RB is not the swap to do.

i should listen to my own advice sometimes...
