Does the R32 GTR have digital climate control or not???
If it's got digital, it could be faulty electrical, if not...
First off, you need to understand how the heating system worksHere's the deal... The heater is part of the coolant system. The water pump forces the circulation of coolant throughout the engine to the radiator, and also through the heater core. The heater core is basically a small detour for the hot coolant that has left the engine. That coolant picks up as much heat as it can inside the engine to keep the engine cool, When you select heat on your climate control, you open up a detour for that coolant to go into the heater core. The heat system then cycles air through the vents in the heater core so that the air picks up that heat from the coolant, and then into the cabin to warm your buns.
Chances one of three things. 1.) You climate control system is broken. It's possible that the switch that opens up the loop into the heater is not functioning.
2.) You need to flush your (your friends) heater core. If the car sat for a long time, it's possible that a bunch of rust and gunk build up inside the heater core. That buildup is preventing flow of coolant into the heater core and that obviously doesn't allow the coolant to heat any air passing through.
3.) This is the more significant issue... You may need a new water pump!! This is what happened to my car. My RB20 must have sat for a while... over time the fins on the water pump corroded away. So, it didn't give any sign of leaking externally, but it was completely shot. It showed a little bit of flow into the radiator, but not enough to really move much fluid around. The proof for me was the lack of hot air through the heater... Proof that it just couldn't circulate.
Do some tests to diagnose... First, take off the radiator cap either before or just after starting the car. Don't do it while the engine is hot... the pressure on the system will spray hot coolant all over you.. Let it run with the cap off until the engine warms up enough to open the thermostat. Look for any motion of fluid inside. If you are getting good flow, that's a sign that the water pump is moving enough fluid. Another way to find out is to wait until the engine is hot and see if both upper and lower radiator hoses are hot. If so, you are getting flow.
Does the car overheat at all???
If you get flow through the radaitor, and your car doesn't have overheating problems, then the water pump is fine... phewwwww.
After making sure water pump is fine... have the coolant system flushed... make sure the heater is turned on while you (or the mechanic) flushes it. This should pump out the crap. You might even just remove the heater core and flush it by itself.
If you are now sure that the coolant is moving through the heater core and it's not all blocked off... The only thing left to be a cause is a faulty control unit. Try getting a new skyline climate control unit.
Hope this helps.
