just got my car back w/ the 408 gearing. feels great what tread was left on my tires is no more. Havent been above 60mph yet but going to Brooklyn for Dinner (Peter Lugers meat fest) so will rip up the LIE and BQE a little later. Installed the speedo gear from a J30 - 391 i think. 60 mph on the speedo is 57.8 on the GPS, i think. More to follow. Had to use the input flange from my stock rear the one infiniti sent me was wrong.

James keep us informed ont he J30 speedo gear. translating the speed isn't an issue, but I'm not thrilled with putting the extra miles on the OD so quickly .

But the 4.08 feeling is great . Sweet spots are roughly ~20, ~50 and ~85.

I tried to swap the speedo gear and it wouldn't physically fit - I've probably put 2500 "non-miles" on the car.

Tell us more...

Yes, please fill me in. I wasn't even aware of a J30 gear swap for the 4:08 set up.Thats great news. I hate it when my kid tells my wife I cracked 105!

Well I cant wait for James to fill us in, so i'm going to fill us in for him...

He got the diff from a R32 GTR, swapped on the Q input flange.. $80 from infiniti, but they send him the wrong one so he took the one off his old diff on. Using stock Q45 halfshafts, worked fine...

He is using the infiniti J30 speedo sensor.. Went right in, as per sijoko. the 3.96 speedo sensor is the biggest that can go in the trans... Which 3.96 is close enough to 4.08 anyway... I think that plus running 245-45-17 (25.7 OD) is accounting for his speedo error..... no problems... its a really easy job too....

Theres NO excuse for a person wtih a 4.08 for the speedo to be off!

James,

Does your car have TCS ? I have talked with Wes bout doing the BCNR32 rear end months back but I would like to retain my TCS. Are the ABS wheel speed sensors mounted on the output flanges on the R32 diff like they are on a G50 diff w/TCS ? My car won't even spin the tires off the line when I nail it with my sticky 245 Avon M500s, it will spin them when I brake torque it thou. That rear end would be nice to have. What do you tach at 80MPH ?

Ouch! Prefer tachometer at 2500 for 80mph.

333 rpms per 10 mph with 3.538385 rpms per 10 mph with 4.083 assuming oem size tires with oem sidewall stiffness with 10/32" tread depth at 35 psi inflation in 4th gear on a 90-96 Q. Obviously the rpms on above will increase 2% from brand new tread to worn out 2/32" tread.

385 x 8= 3,080-3142 [depending on tread depth] rpm @ 80 mph vs 2664 rpm stock

Now you know why I had posted about swapping in the new 6L80E transmission.

You would have great acceleration with excellent fuel economy. Cruising rpms would be even lower than stock.

Anyway, until then I will enjoy my 4.08 diff.

congrats James on getting the 4.08 installed and working. Finally after all these years and countless discussions the Q45 owners now have a much more economical solution to getting a 4.08 rearend
