R2C Maitenance

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Lately I had noticed some hesistation and slight bogging when hitting the throttle, even midly. Seemed like air flow to me, so I checked my filters...yep pretty dirty. I have an R2C CAI with absurdly expensive conical filters (I think about $150 for a set) that I switched in from my wrecked G37. The whole unit probably has 60-70k on it between the two cars. Although I asked my mechanic to blow the dust out last year I don't think he did it. Supposedly the filters are good for the life of the vehicle (or in this case 2 vehicles?) and all that has to be done is to remove them and blow the dirt out from the inside. Tried that with a leaf blower but they stayed pretty dirty. Plan B: written instructions say soak in Oxy Clean for 10 minutes then rinse and dry. OK, but wait..online it says use Simple Green for about an hour instead. What's a fella to do? Only had the Oxy so I used that for an hour, rinsed, sucked out the water with a shop vac, then blew out whatever would go with leaf blower, and let sit for 2 days before reinstalling. It didn't seem to destroy the filters (whew!) and now my baby has a spring in her step again. Gotta make sure I blow em out next year before they get so clogged up again.

Hi, you may need your throttle body(ies) cleaned too. This made a difference for mine too.

Thanks. Seems to be going just fine now, but I'll keep that in mind if it starts to bog down again.
