I saw another thread about this but since it's somewhat differ I didn't want to thread jack. I have a 78 280Z which has a R200. Mine isn't manual stock since I still have the automatic rear end. Is there a way to make it a vlsd or clutch type? i.e. put a kaaz 2 way in since they make one for 240sx which use a shortnose R200. I heard it could be use for the longnose R200 as well. Just need to get a replacement for the open diff. I plan to get some parts from Arizona Z Car so I want to know what I can use or my options are before I order them.

might want to take a good look at your diff, I believe the automatic cars still got the r180

and yes if you buy a kaaz, quaiffe , nismo etc intended for an R200 it'll fit in either cars, the only issues are taht the early r200's use ring gears with 12mm bolts and pretty much all aftermarkets are intended for the newer units with the 10mm bolts, there is an ongoing debate on this, I personally ran the ring gear with the smaller botls with no issue, some wil insist you use bolt spacers to keep the ring ger from sliding

also you want to make sure any diff you buy isnt intended fore the 240sx se which came with the vsld, ti used unequal length outpput shfts, earlier models used the same shafts as early r200's

thanks a lot again buddy. I think I have a R180 also Will the R200 from 87.5-89 300zxt be a complete easy swap for my car?Since the car was an auto and was converted to a 5spd from 79's transmission. As in no modification require just drop and add.

you need the "mustache bar" form an R200 equipped S30 to bolt the R200 in, you might also have to swap briceshafts, seeing as you already had a trans swap you might already have the right one, oh and the intion flange ont he diffs vary so you might need a different pinion flange to match your driveshaft
