R200 Loose stub axle / input shaft

Apologies if incorrect terms for the part but i run an R200 VLSD differential and the input shaft / stub axle that goes into the diff with the 5 bolt flange on it and bolts to the CV / Axle is loose in the head. Confirming that yes circlip is on there (first thing i checked).
Any wacky wonderful suggestions as to what it could be?

I wonder if you shattered a shim or something. Have you popped the cover off to look for carnage?

Thanks for your reply, no i haven't. I'll endeavour to take a look into that next time I'm in the workshop.
Does anyone have a link to an exploded diagram of the diff internals?
