not all that difficult at all.I have one in my 510.although I have gone further than that.you can get the LSD centre out of the later model "shortnose" R200's ( like from S13, R32 e.t.c. ), and bolt them inside the longnose R200 housing/case.But if you are to do that, you then have to convert to a CV axles setup instead of the halfshafts.once you have a R200 LSD with CV axles......your be doing VERY well to brak them.I have blown 6 diffs in my 510, mostly R160's, but also a R180.after installing the R200, there will be no more probs!

lets not forget if you swap the short snout viscous into your long snout housing you'd need to retain the long snout ring gear matching the pinion gear, and of course then you need the specific VLSD output shafts, of course for all the effort you could just fab a front mount and use the short snout unit with a lengthened drive shaft

the R200 is overkill for the L18, the only reason I'd personally do the swap is if you intend to put down big numbers (400 whp), want to convert to CV shafts, or you gto a deal on an LSD that happens to be an R200, btw it seems when and if you can find them, the r160 and r180 lsd's are much cheaper

yes, you have to use the longnose ring gear.the reason?I swapped my shortnose VLSD into my longnose casing, and had it all gasketed e.t.c. back up ready to go in about 30mins!

and when you get a shortnose VLSD, you buy the whole thing, including the output shafts, so its not exactly a hassle?

the ONLY downside (for some people) is that you have to run CV axles, which is the harder part.

I have it with my CA18DET.It depends more on your driving style, I have broken many diffs with only 221HP
