I have the VLSD from a 93 J30 installed in my 96 240SX. I am looking at GReddy's rear differential cover that is designed for the R200. My questions, if anyone can assist is first: Is the original diff from my car considered an R200? ... and second: Will the covers for these diff's interchange (in other words, can I use the GReddy on the J30 VLSD in my 240SX)?

Thanks in advance!

240 diffs are R200 units, and I'm pretty positive that if the rear cover is meant for an R200 from a 240 it will still work with the J diff because they are the same unit with different covers

You should make sure that greddy cover is for 95's and up. If it is a 89'-94' it won't fit. In other words make sure that greddy cover is for a S14 , not an S13.

the only difference between the rear covers, I believe, is the number of mounting bolts. 2 on the S14 and 4 on the S13...though I may have that backwards. I put a 94 J30 diff (s14 style) in my 92 coupe, and the rear covers swapped perfectly.

Thanks, but already researched that ... S14 and S15's. I'm just more concerned about the J30 VLSD fitment.

kinda stupid question but what is the difference between vlsd and the mechanical lsd? (what does vlsd stand for?)

oh~~~~~~~~allright.....got it....so im guessing its like the automatic transmission and manual gears..??is it? which would mean the mechanical lsds are more reliable than the vlsd right? trying to get my facts straight here....thanks

Thats not entirely correct. The VLSD uses a viscous fluid that is suspended between plates. They heat up the fluid and you get 2 stripes instead of one.

The mechanical LSD uses a complicated mass of gears to accomplish the same thing.
