R154 transmission?

Hello all, I'm new to the forum. I want to do a 2jz-240sx swap and I am trying to start collecting the parts. As crazy as it sounds I don't even have the car yet, but I figure that should be the easiest thing to acquire. The first item I would like to get a hold of is the transmission stuff. So I have been searching for a toyota R154 transmission with no luck. Anyone here have any suggestions? Thanks!

R154 comes in the MKIII turbo supras. One should be pretty easy to come by. You would also have to swap bellhousing to a soarer 1JZ bellhousing. New bell housing should run about $300.

Yeah i've researched them, I just found one on ebay but it comes with a bunch of extra stuff and the whole kit is kinda pricey ($650). I'm getting the impression that these transmissions are somewhat rare, u guys think I ought to just bite the bullet and buy the whole kit and try to sell off the stuff I don't need?

Oh sweet! Yeah I'll definately do that! If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for your R154 transmission? Also, I can buy one for $650 + shipping, is it rare enough to warrant that or should I just wait for a better deal? Thanks!

I don't know about everyone else, but I want one because it's got HUGE power potential and HUGE aftermarket support, not to mention parts availablity. Why in a 240sx??? It's a relatively inexpensive, light car with good looks, great handling potential, and it's not an overpriced Supra. Plus this swap has a decent amount of "plug and play" support (i.e. the ready made swap kit from tech2). The KA is IMO junk, the SR20 is nice but too small to make the power I want w/o running race fuel, the RB engines would be very cool but since they were never sold here I don't want to get involved and spend copious time tracking down parts. Basically I want some turbo power and I don't want to have to run high octane fuel just to hit 500ish whp. The 2jz-gte is a proven performer and thats what I'm going with.
