r12 or 134a?

i have a 93 240sx se fastback it has a/c but i'm tring to fix it cause it damn hot outside.

I can't seam to find if the system is r12 or r134a? i have seen posts that say both.

is there any way i can tell? some said there was a tag in the engine compartment but i can't find it.

By law there needs to be a sticker in there somewhere, most likely on the underside of the hood somewhere. Another way to tell is to look at the fittings. If they're kind of small (around 3/8" OD) and threaded then it's R-12. If they're larger quick-connect types then they're R-134a.
