I think I have a can of r12 freon in my garage somewhere, and my car is out of freon. Is refilling hard? What's the procedure ?

Thanks!

One can won't be enough. And if the other leaked out this will to unless you fix your leak. My advice would be to swap to 134. Fix your leak, put in the proper oil for 134, evacuate the system and fill with 134.

i doubt one can, will be enough too...and with r12...we just can't buy it over the counter anymore...unless u have ur air condition A.S.C card...lolz.. or if u can find someone who is willing to sell it to u... beside that the r12 is alot of $$$$ now a dayz.... it is easyer to convert to r134. and possible cheaper in the long run....

I'm not sure if I had 1 or 2 cans... is it worth a shot if I had 2 ? What else do I with it sell it ?

Even if it helps marginally, I think it's worth trying... is it just simply to refill it ?

If it's completely empty without a vacuum on the system you'll have to hotwire the ac clutch to make it operate and suck the freon in. Some will go in without hotwiring but not enough to make the clutch kick on. With a vacuum it sucks enough freon in that when you crank the car and turn the compressor on it will operate and suck more freon in. Without a vacuum you have air in your system and might not be able to get it full. If the system has been open for a period of time the desiccant in your drier could be bad also but probably is not the case with just a leak.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't R12 systems converted to R134a run less efficiently than a system built for R134a to begin with?

Mine is converted to R134a and that was the reason i was given when i asked why it seems to cool poorly. It works but the RPMs have to get up there before it really starts to cool things off on a hot day.

Mine that I have converted, to me are just as effecient as r12. But I also removed my compressor, dumped the oil out of it and flushed my lines which removed all the r12 compressor oil. Most times when they are converted they leave most of the old oil in and just add the required amount of pag oil after vacuuming out your r12. In my opinion you won't be able to get as much 134 in with almost double the amount of oil in your system.
