yea so my xbox360 finally got the RED RING OF DEATH. happened while continuous playing of Forza3. 5hrs a day++.

while playing screen went orange with random lines. kind of like Nintendo did when you had to blow into the cartridge for it work. so i thought it was just a cd skipped or something because the rings were still green. restarted and BAAAAM. 3 red rings.

so just a few questions once again asking for facts here to back up the answers.

i know i have a few options to send it back and it can take up to 2 weeks to get it back . but i also know people that get the RROD after they get it back too.

i might just go out and get a new console instead.

is there a difference between the arcade and the elite consoles. per xbox website there isnt, but people who taken them apart to mod them w.e say that the elite has better chip sets or whatever?

and also when xbox fixes it do they just replace everything as it was, or do they upgrade something that makes it withstand longer?

anyone can help me out

I believe they have used 3 different types of chip sets, and it depends on the date it was made on which chip set you COULD get (its not really defined to either elite/etc as far as I know).

Up to 2 weeks? They told that to my friend who sent his in, and it took them 9 weeks to get back to him! They were backed up, and by the sounds of it, still are.

They don't actually send you back your 360, thats why they ask that you take off your face plate and hard drive when you send it in. They basically take everyones 360's, throw them in the repair pile and then as they repair from the pile, send them out to everyone on the list in order. But to answer your question, I have heard of people who get a broken 360 back.

The best thing I'd suggest to you if you want to keep yours is to find someone in your area that repairs them and bring it too them. They usually do a little better of a job (ie. fix it so it will be less likely to happen again right away) and will even give you the same or better warranty at half the price MS will charge you.

But to be honest, if I was you I'd just trade it in for a PS3. I've had several friends do the switch after 2 or 3 RROD's in one/two years time periods and they couldn't be happier.

How old is your 360? The coverage was extended to 3-years for the RROD on all consoles.

What is your gamertag? I was playing a ton of Forza 3 but my wheel broke. I'm waiting for a new/repaired/replaced wheel. I've been playing Borderlands this week instead.

I sent my 360 in for repair for the RROD about 9 months ago. It took them about a month to get it back to me. They didn't fix mine, they just sent me a different one - it was definitely not a new one.

This replacement one has had overheating issues since I received it back. BUT, since it wasn't the RROD they said it wasn't covered. So I had to do a little modification to it:

Not the prettiest (tried smaller holes and fans to no avail) but it works, it hasn't overheated since Anyway, I wouldn't expect to get a 'better' one back.

Also, the wife got me Forza 3 for Christmas along with this:

That's my oldest playing Burnout Pardise in the second pic. Gotta say the seat is one of the coolest presents I've gotten in a long time

STOP RIGHT THERE!

Don't trade your Xbox in... here is what I did:

I sent my xbox in to get it repaired not to long ago ( 2 or 3 months ago in fact) and I got it back in a timely manner. Was I patient during the waiting period? No. Was I having withdrawals everyday? Yes.

I went out and bought a $200 arcade version.

You don't have to send in your hard-drive so I was good to go!

Only game console in my house is a Wii. We had it since it came out. I believe it is over 3 years now. Not a single issue. Also I've got him a 500g hard drive attach to it. He's got all his games on it. He doesn't even use his disks anymore.

Hey Joe

Mee too

Have you played Need for Speed Nitro? I love that game.

What are some other driving games for the Wii. I have NFS Pro Street but have not really gotten into it yet.

Joe yes you can. You can do a lot more too. You can actually turn the wii into a media player. It will play movies from harddrive and you can put all the mii(not sure if that's what it called I am not a player my son is) also all the old nintendo games from pevious consoles. So if you like some of the old games this is a good option.

All you need is software update(FREE) external harddrive and an sd card.

Sent you an email.

Suby,

Is this another hit-and-run thread like your LCD vs. Plasma one? Are you going to keep us waiting with bated breath?

Elite used to be the only one that came with HDMI port and cables. Now the guts are identical, the Elite just comes with a bigger hard drive, which rules because you can install games to your hard drive, and drop the drive noise to near nil.

I sent mine in for RROD late November-ish and got it back in about 3 weeks, but your mileage may vary. When you send it in, even after the normal year has expired, you get a 90 day "service warranty" on it.

As I stated above, the RROD is now covered for three years.

I should have specified: if you send it in at any point within the 3 year window, you get a full warranty for the ninety days after they send it back

i apologize my friend. i only go on the forums when im at work and it was just the weekend. and got a new position at work which sucks donkey so i was very busy.

theres no way i could wait over 2 weeks right now. since all of you said its deff going to be over the 2 week xbox estimated waiting period.

but ok ok. you guys once again gave me all i need to know .yeah so my main concern was if there a difference in quality from either xbox now. and since there isnt i just went out and got the arcade version the next day, popped in my hard drive.

the new xbox does have the new chipset which is supposed to be better, using less power and less chance of overheating and no RROD. well see how that goes. ummmm the power source is a lot smaller then the other one, the old one was 250w output new one is only 105w so there was some kind of change. and half the size too.

my old one was built 08/07. and this one is 09/09. so seems since last year they made some changes.

still sucks a lot since my first xbox was 400$ and crapped out in just a little over 2 years. its like wtf i remember and old nintendo console NES Super NES or 64 you could leave that on over night because you got so far in the game you couldnt save and didnt want to lose your progress and never had such an issue.

but needless to say im back to my addiction i think my eyes are twitching now hahah.

Why don't you get your original one fixed anyway since it is still under warranty. You then have several options:

1) Use two consoles with your two new TVs. Great for split screen 4-player albeit in two different rooms (ala L4D2).

2) Stash the original repaired console as a backup to the new one.

3) Sell/trade-in/Ebay/pawn the original console after repair.

I know that you can start a repair request online at the XBox Live website.

got rid of my old xbox already, my friend took it to experiment with it. his current one doesnt read games anymore for some reason. it says invalid xbox game disk but he can only play movies and dvds on it. so somethings all sorts of messed up, so he may try just swapping out the dvd rom from it. and see if that does anything.

of course xbox said its not under warrenty he had his for like a year. so well see how that goes.
