Finally, I got time to tear down and replace front (soon rear) strut curtriges. (rear don't have cartriges, just struts which is piece of cake)That is the easiest suspension work I've ever done. Everything is so easy to undo, I was amazed to see ball joint that come out after 1st strike of dead blow same scenario with tierod ends . Here's some pics!

Interesting design front struts have. It seems as though thay can be rebulit with different oil weight. I am positive if I had enough shock oil (I got about 1qts of it) and seals (internal and new cap with seal), I could make it with different compress/rebound ratio just by playing with oil weight!

What's keeping the strut insert in place? I used to have the set of KONI inserts on my Maxima - they were kept by M12 bolt on the bottom.

There is a ppiston rod lock nut on top of the strut assembly, I use spaner wrench to get it off and on.

Interesting idea of rebuilding the cartridges. I have an old set laying in the garage. You happen to know where I can find shock oil?

The process would include a series of bleeding procedures to get all the air out. Second, you would have to replace internal valves. In my case there was a dead spot in frnt shocks ufter sitting for an hour or so!You rock the front end and there isn't any control from shocks, it bounces freely 2-3 times before it catches up and strat working.Regarding the shock oil, I don't know. Try to search for silicone base oils (silicone oils are inert won't damage rubber seals).Try bike shops!Cheers!
