Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard died on Saturday (November 13) in New York, according to his spokesperson.

Sources close to ODB (whose real name was Russell Jones) said he had been complaining of chest pains earlier in the

day.

A statement was released Saturday evening by ODB's mother, Cherry Jones. "This evening I received a phone call that is every mother's worst dream," she said. "My son, Russell Jones, passed away. To the public, he was known as Ol' Dirty Bastard. To me, he was known as Rusty, the kindest and most generous soul on earth. I appreciate all the support I received. Russell was more than a rapper — he was a loving father, brother, uncle and most of all, son. With love, Cherry Jones.

MTV News will have more on this story as it develops.

Spokesperson for JaysonReliford said he is very hurt and will not comment at this time other than "it is a sad day in the hip hop world."

Yeah, it's weird. Apparently, taking tons of coke and various other substances can be bad for your heart!

I know, I too find it shocking.

He lived much longer than I ever thought he would, but it's still a shame. He was interesting.

Phew...for a second there, I thought Happosai died.

Good...there is still a midget hermit with an addiction to panty-raiding and women in general to teach the yung'uns about being a "real man."

You know, I heard Big Boi say RIP Ole Dirty Bastard last night, but I didnt know he really kicked the bucket.

Deffinetly wasn't one of my favorite rappers, but he had a song or two I liked.

Sucks that he was DRT.

Just heard about the Dr. Dre fight on the news. I think the hip hop world is getting back to the gang banging.

Keep that crap up, and Dre might get back like he use to be. Slapping the crap out of anyone he wanted to. I must say, I like the less violent version of the D-R-E.

At the same award show I mentioned earlier, Dre and 50Cent took out 5 guys. 50 took on 3 and Dre dealt with 2. Looks like the D-R-E is still thug with it.

He's always been thug with it. You can take the thug out the streets, but you can't take the street out of the thug. Dre's always been one of my fav's
