How would r-compounds be on the street?Advans A048, Toyo proxes RA1, Etc?

I'm looking at some toyos, they are resonably priced for sticky tire. I don't mind them only lasting 15K, I just want to make sure they are safe in rain and 36 degree weather.

15k miles on such a preformance tire is a LOT. As for the A048s, god I love them! But for around 200 bucks a tire....I can search elsewhere. As for being safe in rain............ These tires are designed to grip dry pavement, and not as an all seasoned tire. Winter weather -> forget it.

Which reminds me. A friend of mine totaled his spec e30 325i last year in the rain. He shaved the A048s about 1/8 " for auto xing. It's his dd/track car, but the rear end came out one day in rain. He was goin about 30 or so on a 45mph ramp.

every review i have read says the toyo RA1 is good in wet, and gets 10-12K miles, much more than 15K kms.

I have to wonder how these RA1 are better in wet than BFG KD street tire, but every review says toyo' are great and the KD's suck.

For me, the Falken 615 is about as close to an R comp. as I would go on the street.I have a set in 225/50 16 that I run sparingly for an occasional weekend at a time, I doubt they have 1k miles and are showing wear. You need to remember that daily driving will eat up a tire differently than a track would. I will probably replace the Falkens with the Hankook RS-2 when the time comes. About $20 cheaper in this size.

I run Azenis RT-615s on the street, and they've got tremendous traction, just about all you'll ever need on the street.

Please don't run R-compounds on the street just to "roll hard" -- it's a huge waste of your money. You won't get an R-comp tire up to operating temperature on the street, and you'll heat cycle the **** out of your tires, causing them to wear quick as hell.

Just got for some Falken RT-615 or Hankook RS-II Z212

Winter and poor weather driving are about common sense and car control, not about what tire you run. Last winter, I ran Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s. The previous winter, I ran bald Hankook HRIIs. When it comes down to it, if you drive like a tard or have no driving ability in the snow, you're going to wreck regardless of your tire.

It's not just to roll hard. I am autocrossing them, but don't want to buy 2 sets and change them all the time. I would get the Hankook Z212, but they don't sell them in Canada. Do they sell them in PA? If i could find someone that would be willing to ship me the tires I would paypal them the tire$ plus something $$ for their time.

Anyone interested?

PS. I am Canadian, I know how to drive in the snow. I wouldn't think or rolling summer tires. My deticated winter tires look like 4x4's.

Well i got the RA1's. So far so good. When they are cold they grip like an all season But when they are hot, they are awesome. We'll see how well they hold up.
