today i had the rear brake pads replaced because the driver side outside pad had worn completely and had started scraping the disc. all my calipers grab, but i guess this one is grabbing a little bit harder?? when u lift up my car(so the tires are in the air) and spin the wheels u hear the pads/discs rubbing. i was under the impression that the calipers and lines are just done, so they don't have the tedency to retract after pressure has been released. but my mechanic insists that they are fine. i was telling him i want to do rebuilt stocks in the rear and z32 in the front(not just for performance, but to have new equipment that won't grab). what do u guys think?? any help is appreciated.

Its just a little noise but the tire still spins fine?its probably ok. If a mechanic did the work, and he says its fine then Id take his word. His work is warrenteed anyways right? so even if they are rubbing, your just gonna eat up a break pad at his expese...

But you can generaly hear a slight dragging from the rotor anyways, If you drive it and it drives fine, and you can still turn the wheel easly by hand I wouldnt loose any sleep.

thats the thing. to me they don't spin so freely. and when i'm at a light u can feel the car stop on it's own.

you should be able to spin the wheel and have it make about 1/2 to 1 full turn. if its making more than that, your braking system isnt workin correctly. if it spins less than that, or not at all, then you have yourself a locked caliper.

i myself am a certified Meineke technician and can tell you from experience that not all mechanics are honest and forthcoming. dont believe everything you hear. do some research adn take your car to someone you can trust and have it checked out.

Change your caliper pins if they don't slide easily. That happens often that they get stuck then one side of the caliper is always applying a bit of force on one side of the rotor, wearing one pad very quickly.

i think i'm just gonna do the z32 fronts and stocks in the rear from autozone sometime soon. i doesn't hurt to have better braking performance, right?

unless you dont have good tires, and end up just locking them up .It sounds like you just want z32 brakes so do thta. but you honestly could get you situation taken care of pretty easily Id bet. Expecialy if you paid some one to fix it once already.

Why do Z32s on the front only? Do they lock the wheel easily if put in the rear?

rears have a different parking brake assembly & must be "customized" to fit... (parking brake drum w/in a rotor setup?)

yeah, i don't want to go on that mission. the z32s are like 40 bux a piece when u turn in ur old ones. and they bolt right in, supposedly. the rear stock 240 calipers are actually like 6 bux more expensive. i think i should do it cuz u could really feel when ur releasing clutch the car being held back.
