1 million dollars?Scram wrote:I actually called the company in Maryland that crash tested the R33's for Motorex and they said that nowadays, just to set up the testing would cost about $1 million dollars. And that was in addition to the cost of the number of vehicles that had to be tested-likely a minimum of 4. That was probably about 2 to 3 years ago when I called them. This forum mentions that business by name in the 'Import Skyline' thread. That business is also pretty displeased with all the Skyline questions they receive. So be prepared for a short response. They also refused to release any test result information due to some sort of confidentiality agreement with Motorex. I have heard a rumor that Hiro (I think that's his name-I couldn't understand them very well) will sell you the test results for the R33 however. The rumor I heard was for about $20K. Again, this part hasn't been verified by me. I'd be interested in seeing if anyone else has heard anything similar. I've also read somewhere that Hiro is in a lot of trouble for non car related issues but I wouldn't even know who to call to verify that.
this is completely false. The glass in every single Skyline manufactured since at least 1989 meets every FMVSS and DOT requirement. MotoRex never had to have any glass manufacutred to compliance cars. The window seal might have needed modification, which is cake compared to the glass itself.R34fanatic wrote:The reason they are illegal to import is becuase they do not meet DOT standards such as the glass is not high enough quality.
This is completely false. Emissions and EPA requirements have everything to do with importing especially post-1996 motor vehicles.R34fanatic wrote:EMISSIONS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!!
Are you talking about MotoRex? Motorex imported about 100 GTS and GT-R. Their charge was $16,000 per car for conversion costs. They crash tested an R33 GTS at JK Technologies in a belted collision test to meet NHTSA requirements.R34fanatic wrote:A while back there was a company in California that managed to legaly get about 50 of them in and crash tested the required 5 and converted them to meet DOT standards. They also went for $100,000 each.
How is it not a real skyline? Kaizo's unibodies start out life as a stripped down Nissan Skyline GT-S or Skyline GT-R before being 'remanufactured'. US VIN's have 17 digits, not 12. Kaizo cars come with interiors and suspension components.R34fanatic wrote:There is another way to get one. It is not a real skyline but it is as close as one can get. There is company called Kaizo industries, their website is kaizoindustires.com, they manufacture a R34 Unibody. They even give it a 12 digit U.S vin number. The only problem is then you have to go find the engine, Interior, Brakes, suspension, transmission, etc. and put it all together. So it is a kit car and not a real skyline even though it has all skyline parts. And it can be registerd in any state.
Really. Where are you going to go to get the airbags that are referenced in VCP-17 and VCP-35? JK technologies. Do you think they are going to sell them to you? Do you think that with the rescindance of VCP-17, ANY of this applies to R34's?Vandrel wrote:

All of the crast testing data and required modifications to bring the vehicles into compliance with NHTSA standards are now public as of March 2008, I made a post with direct information and links in regards to this in May when they were finished posting the released information. All that is needed now is a cost effective OBDII system and anyone can spend a reasonable amount of money to import these things.
If someone at JK Tech told you otherwise they were a idiot and should be chit canned.
The one thing I cannot ****ing stand about this forum is that when someone is caught up or doesn't know what to say, they ALWAYS accuse the person of "not searching first". I'm sorry, but if you can't take the time to type out why you hate R's, Skylines, etc. then, in my opinion, you don't really seem to have a valid point. "Use the search, and you'll see" God, how ****ing annoying, I'm not about to read through all of your posts and hunt down why you hate R's. I'd be wasting about as much time as I am typing this long *** reply.themadscientist wrote:search is your friend, look me up and figure it out.
What you have to understand about TMS is that this guy is Old School Okinawa tuner. I don't fully know how things go down south of the mainland, but I can understand, and appreciate his opinions.zoneoneoni wrote:

He's more of a guy who likes simplicity in design rather than PlayStation era vehicles, which is what our beloved automobile seems to be heading for. That's part of the reason I still like late 80's to late 90's cars. Simplistic design features, no computers assisting me in my driving, and still not to hard to turn a wrench on, if needed.
TMS can be abrasive sometimes, and even I dissagree with him sometimes. He's one of those guys that you'll never change, so it's just better to not respond to his posts if you don't like what he says. Trust me, he'll clown you more than you'll ever want to be if pushed to far.
