Unit looks good. How loading of the unit from start up to menu? i heard some of them are long - around 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Nice video review Brian! Your new deck looks pretty sweet, it's almost like the AVIC-D3 and AVIC-Z3 got together and had a love child. They took the dial system and color changing backlighting from the D3 and the 3D Nav system from the Z3. BTW I think you can fix the rotating color. On the D3 you could actually set RGB values and create your own color, I'm sure you can do the same with yours. I'm sure you've got an IR receiver too. Here's a pic of the remote that came with my Z3 and the one that I bought which is the same for the old DEH-9800BT. If it works get the small remote. I'm sure the IR codes are the same for all of their decks. Congrats on the new deck bro, and that detachable face is sick!

The HUGE stock remote:

The much more compact and easier to manage old DEH-9800BT remote:

thanks billy. The sucky thing is this deck did not come with a remote nor did the remote from my fh-p9000bt. I dont think there IS an IR receiver, there is an output for a "wired remote".

Ive seen some remotes that attach to the steering wheel...that would be awesome but probably none are compatible with mine. I definately miss having a remote and every time i drive my parents land rover...i get so jealous of the steering wheel controls (97-00 q's dont have that feature!)

definately loving the new setup, actually used it today leaving windsor..left from an unfamiliar place and instead of going back from where i came it took me along a great county route and got me to the main highway much faster!

I also love not having the annoying beep anymore when i press a button. And the detachable face is a great thing.....such a piece of mind. My area is REAL bad and i dont have a garage space. Last year my dads truck got broken into twice, and last night a concrete saw was stolen from our shed.

Im shocked there arent more detachable nav in dash setups..jvc has a 7" detachable display, and this u310 and ive seen an eclipse/tom tom collaboration, but thats it!

ganesh....ipod setup is perfect, no load time at all its just as fast as cd

Yeah it's BS that Pioneer didn't put IR receivers on the F/X/U series units. I don't have the steering wheel controls either and I seriously though about just buying the buttons and all of the components and just hooking it up, but I'm not too sure it's worth it. I saw the steering wheel controls you're talking about that Pioneer makes for other units and it sucks they didn't make those compatible with the F/X/U series unit either. Whenever I want to change a song I always miss the "joystick" and hit the screen, which usually ends up stopping the nav screen.

im not a huge fan of nav head units, but i do like pioneer. i had their DEH-P9600MP unit. and it was awsome. I loved the 13 band EQ, and all the little ways i could tweak my sound. I did part ways with it tho, for an old rockford head unit, about 9 or 10 years old(still ne in the box, never used), one which is much rare and fits my needs a bit more. but i had no complaints with my pioneer, they make some very relyable and nice radios.
