Hello, does anybody know where I can get the information on how to remove the center dash section that covers the radio? I want to add the device that allows you to watch TV on the front monitor, and I believe you have to get to the back of the radio. Any information would be great. Thanks Dave......

No, only what I have read, but it sounds like it works pretty good. I just want to make sure I can install it myself. Dave

I'm removing the center dash plate to install my electric brake controller in my 2008 Armada. The dealer told me that they use a plastic tool (to protect the plate) and pull the plate out. There are 4 clips holding the plate in the dash. I'm going to try to use heavy paper clips cut so that there is a hook on one end. I'll insert the hook horizontally and turn it 90 degrees and try to pull the plate away from the dash. That takes place tomorrow.

Did you ever get your dash removed? I have an 07' QX56 which I am going to remove the dash and install a module to watch DVDs on the front screen. I have the service manual which shows how to remove and was wondering if you came across any 'tricks' to get the radio/display out.

I have already tapped into the DVD player wire harness in the center counsol and have an RCA Video Plug ready to go as an input to my front screen so it will play the same DVD as in the factory player and the sound will come through as normal DVD through factory speakers.

There is also a cool auto window roll up module I installed which works awesome with factory remote.

Let me know.

Hello, no I haven't tried to remove the dash yet. I haven't bought the unit to play the DVD on the front screen because I'm not sure I can get it open without doing damage to the dash. Sounds like you have some good headway, how did you tap into the dealer DVD? I was trying to figure out how to do that, did you have to remove the whole center console? So where did you find the auto window roll-up and how did you intigrate with the factory system? Also curious which unit you bought to watch the DVD on the front monitor. I bought the video multiplier that has one video in and 4 video outs, and the 11" color headrests dor the driver seats, but I haven't installed any of it yet. I have been trying to figure out how to tap inti the factory DVD like you did. Any help you can give me would be great. How do you like your 07, it has more features then my 05, kind of wish I would have got the 07, but still love my 05 Dave....

Hey Dave,

Sorry for the delayed response......

First off, I bought a 2004-2007 QX56 Service Repair Manual. This is the one the Technicians use and shows you every nut and bolt on the car. It includes wiring diagrams, intallation/removal of components, remote re-programming.......basically everything you ever needed to know about your SUV. I have it on CD ROM.

The dealer DVD: Basically by using the audio video section of the manual, it shows which wire is video (it shows wire color and what the wire harness looks like, and where in the harness the wire is). It was a black wire with white stripes in the blue harness, not the grey one. I cut the end off a video RCA cable and tapped the positive to that wire and the shielded braid to the shieled braid inside the wire harness (it is taped up, so once you get to the harness, pull some of the black tape back). One thing to note is that the QX uses what's called a balanced system in that it has a positive, negative, and ground shield for the video and audio. Long story short, the + and - carry the same video or audio signal, but one is 180 degrees out of phase and is merged back with the other at the DVD player.......it is used to cancel out interference. Rest assured, it is overkill and all you need is the + and ground shield for your video source. The receiving component would have to have inputs for a balanced system anyway and the front monitor does not. To remove, you simply remove the screws on the bottom of the inside of the center consol under the rubber piece and the two screws under the little rubber stoppers on the driver side of the consol (on the top edge). Pull it up and remove the harnesses............USE TOWELS on the woodgrain and plastic edges around the consol or you will scratch it up!!

The window rollup module I got from KP Technologies. Here is the link.

They have some other cool add-ons as well. The window module was a breeze to install. Had to tap into 5 wires inside the drivers door and the little black box I mounted right inside the door panel under the window/lock swith control unit. It allows you to hit the FACTORY REMOTE lock button two time in a row and the windows go up by themselves. It can also be programmed to auto lock your door after the car haas been on for 6 seconds......since Infiniti/Nissan doesn't offer that.

The door panel was a bit tricky even with the manual, but pretty simple once you have done it once. If you end up tackling this project, I can send detailed information so you don't scratch anything up.

I bought the NAV TV module at GNET. This is the one you would need:

I just got it and installed it tonight. Was a piece of cake. I would have been lost without my CD Manual, but with it, I got the dash apart in less that 15 minutes and found the wire harness going to the monitor I needed. It is really cool, I have a remote and mounted the IR sensor in the center of the center consol....in the big cup holder. It looks like a factory component and one push of the remote and I have the DVD playing on the back screen and on the front as well. It also has two other inputs if I ever add something else..........maybe Sat TV tuner!!

If you need other details, drop me an e-mail at [email protected].

Thanks for the info. I like the module you bought that will also locks the doors, I think I'll buy that also. I bought the direct tv satellite receiver from ebay, but have to return it because it wasn't as describes and was missing parts. I'll check out the links you listed. Where did you get the disk that shows all the wiring, I think I need that to help me do the install. Thanks DAve....

You DON'T need to remove the head unit or take the dash apart to get the DVD to play on the front NAV screen. I purchased the TV and NAV to GO Switcher unit and I actually tapped into the back of the DVD Drive for the NAV system. You need to download the service manual to insure that you tap into the correct wires. Run your RCA cable from the Switcher to the correct wire coming out of the DVD player. You then install a switch so that you can flip the front screen from NAV to DVD with ease. Some worried that you would see the heating and cooling info on the bottom of the screen while you are trying to watch Seabiscuit, but all you have to do is hit the "Route" button, and the bottom HVAC info bar disappears. The cool thing is, if you want to raise your temp, is shows up again as you turn the dial, and give it a couple of seconds, and it is gone again. Being the huge Packer fan that I am, I went on Ebay and purchased a TV tuner, installed that and a couple of hidden antennas, and now when I am tailgating at a late game, I can follow all of the action of the early game live on TV, or maybe even catch a syndicated episode of Cops!

Well, that is just the problem my friend! The 2008 is a whole new animal. Part of the problem is that there is not a 2008 service manual available just yet. Nissan has not published it yet on their tech website. I have searched high and low, and NO ONE has yet been able to unlock the NAV screen to allow it to play video while the vehicle is in motion. You can watch it while you are in park, and with the e-brake on. It is believed that there is a senor not only in the e-brake, but there is also a sensor that detects when the vehicle is moving. I will be purchasing a 2008 Armada LE with the DVD & NAV in the next few months, so I am very interested in finding a resolution to this issue. As I find any info, I will be sure to keep everyone posted. Rest assured once the '08 manual is available, there will be a way.

Thanks for the quick response, I actually continued researching this last night and came accross this site: https://www.nissan-techinfo.co...2BPB8Is this the service manual one would need in order to perform the installation???? Thanks again!!!

Well, yes, that is what is needed to figure out what wires you need to tap into, but there is another site that you can download just the files you need from the service manual for free. This site does not have the '08 on it yet.

And lastly, even if you have the service manual, you still have to make sure you are tapping into the correct wires. Everyone is patiently waiting!

Thanks again for replying so soon!!! I finally picked up the new QX this afternoon but didn't have time to play with it until now. It seems I didn't research enough as I just figured out that the tv on nav is already pre-installed on the 2008 MY and all I'll have to figure out is how to bypass the emergency brake to be be able to watch while in motion without interfering with the navigation. Hopefully that will be something everyone here will pitch into!!!! Thanks in advance for whatever help you can provide!!!! By the way it seems as you said that the service manual on your link has not been uploaded yet or is unavailable, however, this one is: http://x.infinitihelp.com/foru...d=381Unfortunately I have been trying to downladed since yesterday but it doesn't allow me!!! Can you see if you may be able to???

First off, I again want to stress that is more than bypassing the e-brake. That alone will not allow the video to play on the nav screen while the vehicle is motion. There is more to it than that. Initially that is what others tried, and with no luck. It looks like you would have to pay the $10 subscription fee in order to download the service manual for the 2008. Which is a great deal, still doesn't guarantee that you will be successful, but at some point you will need it to complete this mod. Good working finding the QX56 instead of the Armada! Let me know what you end up doing.
