QX50 Install third party NAV/android auto (Pioneer AVIC8100NEX)

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi,

Anyone knows if it's possible to install a Pioneer AVIC8100NEX in the QX50?
Because I wanted to use android auto/ projection on the car... however I don't know the headaches this brings.

Well, anything is possible with enough time, money, and effort. But...

I'd say that it would be a huge undertaking and incredibly difficult, and that's an understatement.

1. No matter which QX50 trim you get, the factory stereo is so integrated with the center stack, dashboard, and rest of the car.
2. I'm not even sure you'll be able to fit in a double din sized stereo where the factory stereo controls sit. The controls for the climate system may have to be moved down a bit and the plastic trim for the information screen controls may have to be cut a little at the bottom.
3. It looks like you'd pretty much have to cut into the decorative trim in the center stack.
4. Most cars that can easily accept an aftermarket stereo have trim kits available that adapt the odd geometry of the stereo face in the center stack to a standard single/double din opening. I don't believe there's one out there for the EX35/QX50.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would require an incredible amount of custom fabrication to look halfway decent, and that's if it'll even fit in there. If you have an excellent car audio installer with lots of fabrication experience, the wiring diagram from the factory service manual, and a good amount of money, then sure, it can be done. Personally, it wouldn't be worth it for me, but if it's important enough for you go for it :bigthumb: . It would be the first aftermarket stereo install I've seen on this EX/QX50 platform, and I'd truly be interested in seeing both the build process and end result.

I was reading trough the options and ups and downs... and it can interfere with too much stuff that it's simply not worth the hassle. Might loose cameras, and info about the car, etc.. it's a pitty, because the system that I have in the 2015 model it looks really kind old school. And now days navigation without traffic information is only half usefull. Plus a lot of information in Dubai is based on the building names rather than streets or door numbers simply because the numbers doesn't exist so it is harder to search for anything while in google maps is simply search for the building (or even use voice to search for it).

It would be simply easier to put a pad on the side, or just a automation of my s7... which is what I just did with tasker. SImply created a task to fire up when the bluetooth audio connects to the car and then starts spotify and waze/google maps.
It wont be the same as a bigger independent screen, but I also not into having a pad on the car simply for the fact that then will have too many devices around and would still need internet on the PAD (as google maps doesn't work offline in this area).

If I knew that it would be fitting perfectly without any problems would be one thing, but it's too risky and too costly to try it as a first timer... I'm sure there are decent installers around here, but it will be costly.

If anyone had installed one, would also be happy to hear about it..

You may actually have a glimmer hope.

The G37 has an almost identical center stack as our cars, and it looks like there may possibly be a few options for you.

Metra dash kit:

Nexus carputer:

There are a few downsides. The metra kit looks rather cheap compared to the OEM interface, and it looks like you would lose the use of some features with the Nexus setup. If you're willing to live with those negatives and can get either option to work, you might be able to get what you want for a navigation setup.
