No, these are just pics of the test fit. The stock wheel is back on till I find an airbag and controls.

jcpathy69: whatever happened with this projecT? were you able to successfully put the wood steering wheel on?

I am interested in doing this on my 01 pathfinder as well...depending on how easy it is.

why do you need to get a new airbag when you install the new steering wheel? cant you just use the airbag and audio controls on your old steering wheel that came with the truck?

I still have the steering wheel sitting in my garage... I can't reuse my airbag and audio controls b/c I have an 03 and the airbag is different from the QX4, I need an 02 airbag and controls and I've had a hard time finding them. I've seen them on ebay but they're always SUPER expensive, so I'm just patiently waiting and hoping that I will stumble across them sooner or later. Any help finding an airbag would be greatly appreciated! Even if it is popped.

I will gladly trade u, but u do realize that my 03 steering wheel DOES NOT have the wood on it!?Also, the airbag is hollow, my truck was wrecked and when put back together, I just fixed the cover and cut the airbag out...

This will probably seem like a dumb question to some of you, but how do you remove the steering wheel? I'm afraid to even touch it because of the airbag and stuff.I'm also interested in changing out the wheel on my '06 Altima, so I'm hoping the process is the same. Thanks in advance.

Update:I finally found an airbag and got everything installed in the truck. The wiring harness didn't match so I had to make my own, but everything is hooked up and working now. (with the exception of the horn)

Here are the pics, enjoy!

I wish they made that steering wheel in the black colored wood that I have in my 04. The car has tan interior, oh well the wishes shall never be realized.

First, start by removing the negative battery cable. Then remove the small covers on each side of the wheel to reveal the bolts to the airbag. Use a 10mm socket to remove the bolts. Now you will be able to move the airbag. Disconnect the two wire connectors and set the airbag out of the way. Now you will have access to the nut holding the steering wheel itself on. Using a 19mm socket and a long extender (for ease), loosen the nut. It will be VERY tight, I had to hold the steering wheel itself with one hand. DO NOT remove the bolt completely! Once loosened about 3/4 of the way, it's time to start tugging on the wheel. It also is VERY tight, I put a hand on each side and used my knees to help pry it loose. Once it's popped loose (now do you see why I said not to remove the nut all of the way!?) remove the nut and you are finished.

Since you have an 02, you can get the infiniti wheel and put everything back together using your stock airbag. If you have a newer vehicle (03-04) the stock airbag won't match up with the infiniti wheel and neither will the wires. An 02 maxima or pathfinder airbag will work and you can make everything else work if you have some electrical experience.

Good Luck!!!

I have the original steering wheel in my 2002 QX4 and whenever it is humid outside the black parts (at the 9'o'clock position) seem to be rubbing off on my hand...how can I protect my steering wheel for the future?

thank you

Fueler. I have a 2005 Ford F150 FX4. Do you have a steering wheel cover to fit?
