I have a 99 qx4. I'm disappointed with the power and gas mileage. Is it possible to match a small block v8 to the infiniti transmission? What other options do i have to increase gas mileage and horses. I have a 95 nissan maxima is it possible to do an engine swap. I need help.

Anything's possible, but that's probably not what you're looking for. I'm sure it's been done, but I don't recall offhand. The biggest concern would be longevity of the transmission. It was designed for the QX engine, however weak it may be. The max swap sounds like a lot of work to gain 5 ft-lbs of torque.

Get an 01 and newer QX4. I believe they had 240-250bhp V6 with more torque compared to the 168bhp in the '99. Fuel economy is still gonna suck......after all its an SUV.

The transmission was beefed up on '01 to accomodate the new 3.5L. My wife drives our '01 Qx4 and loves it, but she does complain (loudly) about the gas mileage (appx. 17 mpg city).
