qx4 vibration at 1700 rpm

I just bought a 99 qx4. since then the engine light has come on with a faulty crank shaft position sensor. When the engine reachs 1650 to 1700 rpm there is a very loud rattle. i can't tell if it is coming from the engine or exhaust. Are these two problems related? Please help.

Probably not related. Get the car on stands and tap the exhaust with a rubber mallet. The rattling might be a heat shield.
