Hey Guys

I Have a 2002 qx4 with the stock factory tire size of 245/65R17.

I am thinkin about getting some new A/T tires and I was looking into the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ.

How ever, the closest size they come in is 245/70R17.

Would this rub or any negitive effects on a stock qx4? Would this hurt my gas milage or power in anyway?

Thanks for the help!

the stock tire equates to 29.5" which is tiny

bumping it up from 65 to 70 makes it a 30.5" tire which you can definitely fit on stock suspension, ive done it before. you just might have to do some minor trimming. Like for example you might get a rub in reverse with steering wheel at full lock. Nothin that cant be solved with a dremel and 5 minutes.

My tires are Yokohama Geolandar AT-S 245/70R17 and they don't rub. A larger, heavier tire will obviously decrease your torque because the tire is heavier and harder to turn from a full stop, but I don't think you'll notice it too much. With larger diameter tires you will see an improvement in highway fuel efficiency because the tire has to make less revolutions per minute to travel the same distance compared to a smaller diameter tire. However, on stop and go city driving fuel efficiency will suffer due to the extra energy needs to repeatedly turn a heavier, larger tire from a complete stop. On my tires I am averaging 19.9 MPG (US) / 23.9 MPG (Imperial) / 11.82 L/100 Km.

larger tires dont equal better fuel efficiency - the truck is geared for a certain size tire, go too drastic of a change in either direction and youve got messed up gear ratios, your engine now works at a different RPM for your truck to travel 65 mph for example, youre not in the prime powerband anymore!! (also, your speedo becomes inaccurate as well as MPG readings) changing tire size drastically without regearing hurts fuel economy in a major way. thats why offroaders like/need to re-gear when they go 33+
