The 02 QX4 owner's manual says to use tire chains ONLY on rear wheels. But http://www.vulcantire.com/chainfaq.htm#A5 strongly recommends to use chains on ALL wheels for better traction.

Which one should I follow? Thanks.

you only really need them on one axel to propel the vehicle. the front s wont spin faster then the rear when in 4 wheel drive and if your driving with chains you should definitly not exceed 35mph. IMO putting them on all 4 wheels is just going over board.

Thanks NISTECH.

02 QX4 has two tire sizes, 245/70R16 or 245/65R17. I calculated their overall nominal diameters and found they are basically the same as they are supposed to be. Therefore one size of tire chain can fit on either tire right?

Just want to make sure before I order online. Local stores don't have chain for my tire size.

yea most chains fit several size tires so as long as it states it fits one it should be ok the only difference between those 2 tire sizes is your side wall height which is taken up by the rim difference.
