I have a 98 QX4 with about 110k miles automatic. Yesterday i was driving back from work, suddenly the transmission made a loud weird cluk sound , but it was back to normal in a second. It worried me, but i dont know what i should do, it car seems fine.
After that i got home, i realize the car wont go reverse! When i shift in to "R", nothing happens. Then i shift into "N" the car moves forward. it acts like its still in gear. I shift to "D" it moves forward. I shift to "2" it moves forward. I shift to "1" it wont move!
I called a friend, he said that Nissan has a "fail-safe" mode which it lock your car in 3rd gear no matter what. You can reset it by leaving key in ignition for 3 sec and start the car again. I tried that and it didnt work.
Today i shift the car in "N" and drove around the block and it work just fine.
Anybody got any advise? please help! I called around most transmission places, they want $1000 to remove the gear box or the transmission to look at it.
