I have a 97 Infiniti QX4. 80,000 miles. When I am driving and it approaches about 45 mph, and it starts to go into overdrive, it feels like it shimmy & shakes before it makes the shift. Not a big deal, just don't want to have to replace a transmission. Also, the exhaust is shot and the supports to hold the running boards are rusted. Any ideas? Especially on the overdrive issue. New to the site, first post. Love Nissans & Infiniti's. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I can tell mine is going into overdrive if I pay full attention to my driving, without looking at the tachometer. Since it's not that noticeable, any small distraction such as playing with radio or AC, talking to passengers, or even my own body move, will smooth that moment out.

Thank you for your reply. It is definetly noticable. I guess it is more like a shake than a shimmy. It almost feels like a sputter when it shifts into overdrive. Do I need to have a transmission flush? This is only under smooth acceleration. If I am pushing it, it shifts fine, but when the 4 month old is in the car and I'm driving like a little old lady is when it does it. I am confused???

I haven't done anything to my transmission. However, I heard bad thing about flushing it, such as after flush, transmission failed, etc. I am not sure of it but you can google search it.

If Nissan/Infiniti dealer recommend flush then I think it's OK.

Maybe you can check transmission fluid level, color and smell first.
