Recently bought a '98 QX4 and the only really bad spots are the boards. The tubing along the outside edge appears to be 20mm X 30mm X 278mm. Some of the rest of the supports are gone and the boards are sagging badly. Has anyone tried to rebuild the framework, have a drawing of the framework or a good pic to work from? The rest of the body is in nice shape considering it wintered in Cincy for 9 years and now lives in Pittsburgh (road salt capital of the world!)

Thanks

Have you had any luck finding either parts or a drawing of the framework?

Check out that thread, it has some very good info on replacing the running boards. Some have had luck with welding additional pieces to it and there's apparently some good rock sliders that might fit.

For whatever reason, I never noticed until just the other day that the running board supports underneath are completely rotted out on my '01 QX4.

I live in the Chicagoland area and my truck has been garage kept. I'm kind of dissapointed that they are in such bad shape. They are completely rusted through in several spots.

Anyone here put aftermarket running boards on their QX4? Factory replacements look like they run almost $1800! I'm not putting that type of money into running boards for a $9000 truck. I do like the lowered look with the running boards though.

I might see if I can't find a local shop to try and fabricate something. Doesn't have to be pretty, just as long as they don't snap off one day when I step on them (mainly to wash the roof).

Anyone have any pictures of a QX4 with aftermarket running boards?

Andrew

I recently pulled the boards off, cut out the old tubing, and welded in a new length of steel tube stock where the rusted one was, and new steel brackets to attach them to the boards. It definitely wasn't a quick fix. Those longitudinal support tubes are definitely a weak spot on all the Qs, and seem destined to rust out. I could literally poke my finger through those supports before I replaced them

Someone on here redid them and welded a new tube under there, i dont really have time right now to search for it (at work) but it IS on here somewhere with pics. I actually was going to print those out and bring them to a welder, a family friend is going to do it for me eventually, should be pretty labour intensive but ill gladly pay good $$$ to get that crap fixed. it doesnt feel so luxury when the gf is stepping on that bar to get in and its sagging/almost falling off. lucky for me the drivers side is worse than the passenger side

I just ended up taking mine off because it just didn't seem safe to keep them on when they sagged like they did. The Q doesn't look so bad without it, but because mine came without the rear spoiler from the factory, and now has no running boards, it's beginning to look pretty cheap.

I've had plans to have new frames welded up for them as well. I just haven't had the time/$$ to get it done yet. One day, one day.

BUMP....nickD85, can you go more into detail and maybe give me some pics...a friend of mine is going to refabricate them for me over the winter but he said to look for replacement brackets...what/where did you use? I found some steel tubing for this job just need help finding brackets.

Mine is completely gone on drivers side, a good foot of tubing is non existant and just touching it it flakes off so this winter i will take them off, get them refabbed, primer and paint the underside and undercoat it and throw it all back on in the spring

ALSO last year someone welded everything and posted picture, i totally cant find that thread, if someone does find it post it here and deeeefinately in the how to section of the forum!!!

I have 1998 Infiniti Qx4 Running Board Driver Side in good condition. I broke my passenger side running board and it was costing 1500 to replace that. So took off the driver side as well. It is Brown and Black Rubber. Let me know if anyone needs it.
