I'm about to crawl around underneath the QX4 I bought for its first real chasis lube. The service manual wasn't very specific except to say some grease points won't have fittings yet and will just have plugs. I have an older Nissan NX that doesn't have a single grease zerk. Before I wander around on my creeper could someone tell me what and where I should find fittings and/or plugs in under my 2001 QX4.

If there's plugs I'm sure the previous owner didn't replace them with zerks yet.

Thanks

Good question, I am not aware of anything greasable on the chasis....

If your QX4 is 4wd, then the only grease fitting on the vehicle is on the front driveshaft (for the front diff). If your QX4 is 2wd, then you can only grease the main driveshaft.

Other than those, there are no other greasing points on the R50 chassis.

Thanks guys. I thought this thread was just going to die with no response. I have the 2WD, so I won't waste my time searching for grease fittings. Thanks

Learned something new today. I didn't think there were any grease points. Thx.

Always forget about the front driveshaft or propeller shaft as I think Nissan calls it... Still never greased, and not even sure what to grease on it.

Pwnin-do u have a pic of the grease point? I think I looked for it over the summer when I was doing xfer fluid change and didnt see it.

Nah, I don't have a pic. The problem is you have to position the driveshaft perfectly to access the zerk fitting. You have to move the car forward or backward a little bit until you get the zerk fitting facing downward. Also, the zerk fitting is a little hard to get to since the transmission cross member is right over where the zerk fitting is on the driveshaft. You definitely need a grease gun with a flexible hose.

Does anybody know how many zerks there are under an 03QX? I havent got under this ride yet but always hate to get out from under a car and wonder if I missed any possible lube points. Cant locate a chart or such for it.

Thanks

'03 QX4 should just have one. If it's 2WD, it's on the main driveshaft. If it's 4WD, then it's on the front driveshaft.

I'd recommend you get a grease gun with a flexible hose, that way you can access the zerk from almost any position, unless it's pointing straight up. Much easier that way.

Also, I just checked the zerk locations in the FSM, and it amuses me that Nissan calls then nipples.

Thanks Densetsu.

Much appreciated. One nipple is better than none.
