Recently my QX4 2001 service engine light went on. I pulled a code P1145 showing VTC Position Sensor problem. Took it into dealer than they said oil was low event though the low oil light was not on. Although this did not make sense I had them change the oil. Dealer charged me $120 for diagnostics and another $60 for oil change. Note I've been running synthetic for years and change oil regularly. The service engine light came on again just days later...same code. I've read some other topics on NICO and seems this is a commone problem with little resolution. Any suggestions would help. Is this something I can do?

the sensors that the p1140 and p1145 codes refer to dont really have anything to do with the oil level, except for that they stick into the cylinder heads a little bit, thus when you go to replace it, you will find some oil on the end of it. replace the sensor using the following link, reset the light and you should be good to go.
