I just put a fuel pump in a 01 QX4. Disconnected the neg battery cable, swapped the pump and re hooked the neg cable to the battery. Started right up, drove it around the block and died. Now only starts with the accelerator pedal held down. Otherwise will not idle and die.

Might I have triggered something with the security system?

I've been reading and found that if you disconnect the battery it can interfere with keys?

Any ideas anyone?

If the security system forgot about keys, it wouldn't start at all.

The FSM has ten pages on diagnosing fuel pump problems. Does it run for onesecond after you turn the key on but don't start the truck? That's for priming.

What was the symptom that got you to replace the fuel pump?

Did you change the filter as well? As Chuck stated, you should hear the pump prime when you switch the key from off to acc. Did you have to re-pressurize the lines after changing the pump (switching from off/acc a couple times)?

It's definately a fuel delivery problem and nothing security related.
