QX4 Noises

Hi all,

I have been getting some weird noises after I shut the car off out of my 2001 QX4. Not sure if of concern.

1. Clicking after I shut the car off, for at least 5-10 minutes.2. Sounds kind of like air released or like air pressure from the front part of the car. Not sure if it is suspension, brakes, or engine, anyone have an idea? Sounds like tire leaking, but the tire is not leaking, and all tires have fine air pressure (checked a few times over past few days, none have gone down at all.

Hey welcome to NICO!The air sound could be your air intake. I noticed when I shut mine off, for the second the engine is winding down, that it's more noticeable than when it's running.

Are you positive the clicking isn't a part cooling down?

I may be a million miles away, but I guess it's a start, right?

I agree with KoukiS14 on the ticking sound... sounds like an exhaust piece cooling down.

For the second noise...

1) Could be condensation from a/c dripping on something hot.2) Could be overheating and you are hearing boiling/pressure build up in the cooling system.

As far as I know, that ticking sound is your exhaust manifold and catalytic converter cooling down. Should be nothing to worry about. My honda did the same thing.

When metal gets hot it expands. So when it cools down it contracts. Given that items are bolted together, it's just very, very slightly rubbing against itself.

Should be nothing to worry about. Now, if you hear that sound in normal driving, then maybe get it checked out by your mechanic.
