Hey!! I feel good finally being able to post in here. I just bought a 99.5 QX4. I know the options sometimes grouped the lsd with heated seats and sunroof, and I have both of those. I *think* I have a vlsd, but how can I tell?

I did search, but I couldn't find nothin'

Thanks!

Were you the guy located in Anderson?? just wondering...

As far as your options, the parts book brings up stupid stuff, like different sunvisors and a larger battery....

apparently the H233B came in an LSD and a 2 pinion (open) diff on the JR50... You could NOT get the LSD with 2wd, but it was optional for 4wd....

If your QX4 has the "premium sport" package, it will have the LSD... Along with this package comes power operated tinted glass sunroof with tilt feature, heated front seats (requires sunroof).. So if you have both of them, you PROBABLY have the LSD, since it was really the only option you could get...

Worst case scenario, you can get under the car, look at the rear diff, and it will have a sticker on it somewhere that says "LSD".

Yeah that was the only option I could find. I have heated seats and a sunroof, and I don't know if those could be ordered ala carte or not. The packages for other Nissan and Infiniti vehicles doesn't seem to be as screwed up as it was for my 240sx.

I'll go under and check anyway. . the 240 will have a sticker too. . I should've known.

Thanks!!!

edit: I'm in Lafayette

I'll throw this in here because I'm sure it's been posted -- but I couldn't find anything during a search.

When do I need to change the timing belt? I've only ever had timing chains before.

Thanks

It sucks starting over from scratch and having to learn all the nuances of a new vehicle after driving 240s for 7 years. . haha

I thought the VG had a timing belt while the VQ had a chain?

It has timing belt. Service manual suggests having it replaced at 105K miles.

You could also jackup the rear end. Spin the tires, if they go in the opposite direction it is an open rear end...no LSD

I just mashed the brake pedal and throttled it up in a wet parking lot, and observed the lack of spinnage from left rear tire.

Interesting, because my new whip has all options but that. It was packaged, as was said, with sunroof, heated seats, etc. . maybe those could be purchased ala carte like in the 240sx?

Still learning all there is to know about the R50

learned this the hard way-almost all 01-up qx4 has lsd but it is a viscous type vs. clutch type on older models i.e. with viscous it's very mild unlike older models with very positive locking action

yes,yes and no99.5-up qx and pathy have 4.363 gears,99-under-under has 4.636and yes the viscous lsd will spin only one tire on pavement , wet or dry sometimes, really only locs up on snow/ice or dirt/mud.Why did they do this?maybe b/c 3.5 has more power and they didnt want old ladies/soccer moms to drift through corners!?well anyways i bought 4.363 96' pathfinder pumpkin, gonna swap it in and go drifting!!!

I have a QX4 manufactured in 4/99 with the 4.636 gearing from the factory..... LSD diffs will have an orange sticker on the pumpkin.

to check, take off e-brake, chock front wheels, lift rear wheels off the ground and spin one. if the other spins opposite, NO LSD. If the other wheel spins same way, then you got LSD.

if you have vlsd it will seem like a non lsd when you jack it up and try to rotate wheel, and im pretty sure if your production date was 6/99 it would be 4.363
