QX4 lighting problem

A problem just surfaced with my '99 QX4. When the headlight switch is in OFF, the dash lighting is on. When I take the headlight switch to ON, the dash lighting, radio, and climate control lighting all go out....this makes it impossible to drive at night. Fuses all look good...My local Nissan dealer says it'll be an all day troubleshooting job (rack up the labor cost, I guess!). Any ideas on where to look for the problem?Thanks

Hey, actually feel stoopid.... found out my wife accidentally turned the dimmer all the way down. Of course, I asked her, and "no, no,no" was the response. Checking the common sense things saved me a humiliating trip to the dealer. Also, by the way, thanks for nothing, everyone. Appreciate the help.

Becasue there is no easy/common failure mode associated with that (as ytou just found out) it's a bit unlikley for us to spot something like that don't you think?
