Hey guys just want to update..

I tried to breathe life back into my qx4, and it was great for about a month, but after the most recent issue, bad axle seal and bearing, the unnerving feeling I had was enough to make me "get rid of it".

Between the IAC valve, belts, O2 sensor, coil pack, new registration, and some other knick knacks, i was just under 1000$ with some labor done by me, some by my mechanic.

The car still needed, pretty much all new suspension and new tires to make it safer @ highway speeds. Not to mention its the dead of summer and my A/C needed to be recharged.

Living in one of the worst salt belt states didnt help, infiniti did their recall on the wheel well/strut housing, but rust ate a hole through the driver front fender, and was eating bad @ the rear passenger door opening area. Not to mention my running boards were gone and the rust was eating through the bottom rockers behind and in front of the wheels. aaaand not to mention someone backed into me and dented my rear driver door and the rear bumper was also damaged.

I can wrench on my car, but I do not enjoy fixing it myself like some people do.

My living/working situation also called for something more reliable than my 15 yr old QX4 (been renitng a car for the past 4 weeks @ 900$ )

So anyways, I made the conscious decision to list it for 1500$ and if I got a 1000$ i would take it. before I did that I just said if I bring it to carmax and they give me 500$ I can forego paying insurance on it, I dont have to worry about taking it on test drives without current registration (i renewed at a horrible time, I paid full two year price for 2 months), and i wouldnt have to waste my time explaining to people the problems it had.

So anyways, carmax gave me 500$ and I was relieved to just be rid of it. It sucks because the month or so I had it on the road I got the best gas mileage I ever had, and I really like driving it as it offers a lot of comfort. But like I said, needed new suspension (4WD was useless without it, death trap last season in the snow).

Anyways my point is, all im seeing nowadays on this forum are people having problems (tons, TONS of IAC problems), and I felt like this axle seal/bearing was the last straw, and probably just a precursor of things to come.

I hope you guys have better luck. At 171k miles, this chapter is closed for me, but I enjoyed the vehicle while I had it.

Sorry to hear that man, but good for you for making the responsible decision. Gotta take care of business and make sure you can get to work to pay the bills! A lot of the things you mentioned needing to do and have done are pretty common to any car with 15 years and more than 100k miles under its belt, but given the rust you describe, it wouldn't be worthwhile to invest much more into it.

Any idea what kind of wheels will be replacing it?

Yeah, the IACV problem is definitely one of the common R50 problems, and apparently 15 years is about the time it rears its head. I'm really grateful for this forum since it gave me the foresight to replace it sooner than later and avoid a larger repair bill.

What codes are you getting?
As so many others have found out, when the IACV goes bad, the chances of having to repair the ECM as well are pretty high.
You can install a new IACV, but if your problems persist, your ECM is damaged.

I am the second owner of my 2000 QX4 and the first is a close family friend. Car currently has 245,000 miles. I hope to get at least another 30-50k. With the way it is running and driving, it shouldn't be too hard. I can feel that the power isn't really there any more, but the car drives really smooth and when you're sitting at a light, you can't even tell that the car is even on. It need a few things replaced, which will cost me around $1k for parts and labor. If it will prolong the life of the vehicle, I'll do it.

The only fly in the ointment on your vehicle would be the timing belt replacement interval. (I'm assuming you have the 3.3 engine)
You should definitely try and find out when it was last replaced.
They need to be done every 100,000 miles or so.
A belt failure usually means an engine failure.

I already had the ECM fixed by Circuit Board Mechanics along with a new IACV....but the p0505 is still there....
