we got a big snowstorm here in toronto.....what a great day. my boss let us out at 2 instead of 4:30 and i saw a good 20 people stuck. i nvr got stuck once nor even struggled. off the line at the lights id leave people so far behind and have the whole road to myself and in the subdivisions, i encountered "virgin snow" not even tire trails yet....love it. heres some pics!

psht shovels are for wussies.

HAHA. Buddy, I live in KW - went to Toronto and back today to take a friend to the airport.

QX4 = GODLY.

Cool story - I snuck in front of these stupid 3 snow plows (sent from Hell obviously), and had about 30km of the 401 to MYSELF!! Doing 80...90 ish, couldn't bring myself to do any faster. Then out of nowhere, some stupid pickup almost rear ends me b/c he's at 120+. Called the OPP with his plate and now I get to testify against him in court. Serves him right. (for those in the US - it's KM/HR - speed limit is 100)

The QX4 was amazing. Tracked nicely, AWD doing its thing - it's like there was no snow...haha

It's days like this that I shudder at how stubborn Ontarians are - "Oh look, 4wd is stupid". Even on days like today they're still so damn stubborn.

Rant over. End of day, i'm fine! I pulled over to help for more accidents that I can count. Things in common - 2WD!!

I miss playing in the snow

Especially now that I have a sweet rig to do it in.

FYI... Don't really need 4wd in snow. It's all about how you drive. I drove my 2wd truck in snow for years, never got stuck. Got stuck in sand once, but that was a different story. You can have a little more fun in 4wd than not, but tires make a bigger difference no matter what you drive.

haha man i work right near the airport! thats awesome im glad u had fun and u reported that prick....even the speed u were going was pretty dangerous as it was hard to see whats in front with near whiteout conditions

snowsurflax......did u get a qx4 back or u still got the subaru (didnt u buy one?) as for the 2wd its true, my dad drove my q before he gave it to me for 2 years and said he never once used the 4wd...but hey i spend the money to maintain it might as well have that extra traction off the line and to showoff in lol hes got an 06 frontier now and the only reason he wanted 4wd on it was because of the higher stance LOL he still never uses it!

snow tires...very important, not only do they add to the traction, they considerably help your stopping distance. I saw a huge ram today with lift and huge mud tires and i was so jealous. if the finances allow for it ill buy summer wheels and throw in some huge profile tires on the stockers so i can be loving it in the winter.....the all terrains do just fine, but snow tires.....verrrry useful.

Meh, the thing people have to realize about driving fast is...

1) Take performance winter driving school - BMW / Land Rover / Bridgestone etc.2) The thing about the snow and speed - as long as you are going in a straight line, and have no one near you - and are COMFORTABLE with driving in snow...and have a good sense of FEAR to keep you safe - then it's OK.3) I saw a 2wd pathy today...RWD with Blizzaks today...couldn't get up a 10' hill. In all fairness, neither could the Bimmers and some of the FWD's - all with snows (steel rims)...those with 4wd...haha, laughed and we all got the finger as we passed them...

I love snow. I just can't stand some stupid idiotic people who either go WAY too fast or go too slow in the snow. The government should do driving tests in the winter!!

hahaha i totally agree with you! and its true...the people do get angry as we pass by. but at the same time these are the people laughing at us in the summer for driving "gas guzzlers' when really the R50 isnt too bad on gas as long as you dont drive long distances often.

Lol its snowed big time last night over here!

I was driving home last night in my pathfinder and it was skidding out soo much (well compared to my maxima with winter tires).

My next purchase for the pathfinder is to get some goodyear all terrains :D

I have winterforce tires on my pathy and the day after the storm was a easy drive, I didnt slip, no sliding unless I did it on purpose...

I only used 4hi once cus I found I managed well in just 2wd... I did get myself into some trouble though in 2wd as I would look for some areas that were covered in snow and just drive in, thats when it started to slide to the side a bit

Lots of snow here too (Ottawa). Having fun in my Pathy passing everybody.I still get amazed at how great this truck is in snow.I run 4 wintertrac snows on my rig, and nothing can stop me. The most fun is pulling up at a stop light, next to a FWD car with all season radials, and leaving him standing there when it turns green. I'm so far ahead it's embarrassing. They must hate me.I get so peeved at these idiots for even being out there in this weather. What are they thinking? No snow tires, 2wd, light car. How dumb is that? Stay home you morons.

I too went out to play with the various 4x4 settings.

Obviously 4Hi is amazing in the snow however I was curious about the Auto feature. In Auto she responds well and transfers power to the front quickly.

VSA works well too, when you're sliding sideways it just corrects itself. It's a weird sensation at first but pretty awesome.

Overall the Pathy just rocks as a winter vehicle!!

Oh yea, tires make a HUGE difference.I couldn't do what I do in the snow if I was running my summer Wranglers, that's for sure. Snow tires all the way.

Ya the QX4 is amazing. Its fun to drift in 2WD mode to lol. I went through a foot and a half in 4H no problem. I even went though a snow bank created by a plow.

nice pics man. We've been getting pounded with snow and white out conditions in Buffalo NY for the last few days. And I havent even been able to have fun with the Q cuz it's still in the shop! But Ive been having a blast with my old little 4wd bimmer. She's a tank and a half. haha. I just miss the ground clearance that my past Jeeps and the QX4 have. Oh well.

Check the profile to the left, boy! I bought an M35 (for the wife). Never owned a soob, but thought about it at various times when looking to purchase. I'm contemplating ditching the QX4 in the next year or two. I've done all the research to turn this pig into an ultimate offroad ripper, but... If it doesn't stop giving me problems I'm going to have to write it off as not worth my time. R50's are getting too old to be buying one used and I hate the R51's.

Nokian Hakkas + Auto All-Mode 4WD = awesomeness.

First of all, I switched to winter tires this year and the difference is night and day. There are people who switch from all-seasons to winter tires and swear by winter tires -- I'm in that camp. But where are the people who switch from winter tires to all-seasons and swear by the all-seasons? Nowhere, and that's the point. Take all those "winter tires are for p****** who can't drive" people, give them a set of winter tires, and once they realize the difference they won't be going back.

I do think that people who use winter tires should get an insurance discount, but that's another issue altogether.

With my '03, there's the odd time I switch from Auto 4WD to 2WD, mostly to pull a quick 180 on the ice/snow. I'll forget to switch back to auto, fishtail a bit with my admittedly aggressive driving (I love stunting on snow when nobody's around!), and immediately switch back to auto. With winter tires and auto 4WD, I've never fishtailed. Never. In 2WD with winter tires? Yep. Last year with all-seasons and auto 4wd? Yep.

Then there's winter off-roading, which is a class of fun all in itself.

I did an insurance quote with belair and they ask if you have winter tires, so im sure other companies will follow suit.

as for the winter tires....hows the difference on making turns on heavily covered roads? I get a huge deal of understeer on 4wd and oversteer in 2wd

I just did an online quote with the insurance company I'm with (TD Meloche Monnex), they didn't ask. Hopefully it'll be a factor in the near future, I'll talk to them about it when I renew my insurance this February.

With auto or 4-Hi, as long as you're doing a reasonable speed (under 40km/h) and your acceleration is moderate (no burning out!), it'll be like turning on dry asphalt. In 2WD, there'll be fishtailing but you won't go out of control.
