QX4 - How to change burned out bulbs in radio faceplate?

Does anyone know how to change out the bulbs in the radio faceplate that are burned out in a 1998 QX4? Or where I can have it done for a reasonable price.

Look for screws holding it in place, remove them, then pry out the faceplate. You should be able to twist the bulbs out. You'll probably have to order the bulbs, as they are not the type you find in an auto parts store: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinf ... cc=1315823

I think it depends on the stereo. I've seen a few replies saying that it can't be done due to them being SMDs.

If they end up being SMDs, you could still try replacing them, it'll just end up being more of a pain.

I have changed all of my bulbs on the face plate I went from the white to a medium blue, I am no electric wizzard !! Take out your Head unit and make yourself a clean area to work as this may take some time..Just look over how everything comes apart take a few pictures... If you are just going bulbs unsolder the bulb at the base, once base is off clean up area on circut board be very very careful !!! replace with same size 12v lamp . Now for the fun part, Put a very small half drop of super glue in the middle of the base, apply to circut board now put a very tiny pin head sized solder on the bulb wire to circut board.. Job Done ! Put back together take your time ..
Now if you really want a fun job do all of this with LEDS you will need two different kinds BUT THIS IS ANOTHER STORY !
