Hey guys,

I am new to the QX4, and the 3.3 engine. I just purchased my 2000 QX4 about a week ago. Love it btw!
I just noticed that at a cold start up (sitting over night...not temp outside) it idles a lot higher than it does when it has been driven for awhile during the day.
Is this a normal thing for the 3.3 to do at cold start ups? If so...do I just wait for the RPM'S to drop a bit before putting her into gear?
If it is NOT normal...any ideas as to whats causing it, and how to fix it?
Thanks a lot for your help with us newbies...it is greatly appreciated. :dblthumb:
Take care!

This is normal I believe. My 2001.5 with VQ35DE engine starts at 1500rpm at cold starts and slowly goes down to 750rpm as the engine warms up. I try to wait until it's 1000rpm or below before taking off, then gently apply throttle until the coolant is at temperature.

Normal at cold start, with engine at no residual heat, the enrichener will keep an idle ever slowing to 750 RPM but will start off around 1500 to 1200 dependent on air temperature and coolant temperature.

The coolant sensor eventually receives a warm up temperature and the engine will slow to at temp 750RPM +- 50. The coolant temperature will act like an off/on switch but it is a more or less linear analog actuator.

When at temp starting will again indicate a high range RPM, but will quickly be at normal range.

When shifting R to D or D to R if you are slow about it the RPM will increase but if shift is quick there will be no increase.

At warmed temp the car in D foot off all peddles, e brake off the car should creep forward level ground up to 2nd gear if left to move long enough. When cold, idle is fast enough to get you into 3rd.
