Thought about doing this with my '01 LE, and did alot of shopping around for parts.
The front fenders on the '01-'04 R50 QX4 are same as the '01-'04 R50 Pathfinder. The QX4 has a large, body colored fender flairs that makes it look different. Same headlamp cutout too.
Unfortunately, the QX4 HID lights are taller than the Pathfinder's halogen housings. Furthermore, the pathfinder's halogen is separate from the cornering lamps, whereas the QX4 is a single piece. Mounting holes still seem the same. The pathfinder makes up for the shorter height of housing with the body colored plastic trim between the bottom of the housings and top of the bumpers.
If you wanted to run QX4 HID on pathfinder, you'd need a new center grill, which means you also need a QX4 hood, and there is probably alot of work to make it fit.
In terms of electronics, as you get the entire housing with ballast, wiring is the same. I put in regular halogens from '00 maxima into my brother-in-law's '02 maxima when he had his HID's stolen. There are same number of wires. Voltage does not matter, because the voltage going INTO the ballast is all 12v DC.
Even if you get everything to fit, and all the wiring done, one final problem is that you'd need the headlamp/turnsignal stalk from a QX4. I know they look the same, but the QX4's stalk is physically designed to NOT turn off the low beam when you flash the high beam, whereas the pathfinder's stalk is designed internally so that when you turn on the high beam, it cuts off the low beam.
If you did not change your stalk, and did all the work, and while you are driving, and you try to flash oncoming traffic, you will find that as you blink, your xenons will try to blink against the high beams. And HID bulbs are not designed to be rapidly and continously turned on and off in succession. You will kill the bulbs.
I guess now you see why I did not do the conversion. Unfortunately, my beloved '01 was rear ended few weeks ago, and was totalled. I have a '05 LE, which ALSO DOES NOT HAVE XENONS!!! I was thinking of a bixenon conversion kit, but I am reluctant because of people reporting getting ticketed by cops for having non-oem xenons...
I think I may install a rear-view camera on my factory navigation system as my first project instead... Good luck with your project...
