Alpine Loop ranger stopped me on the way up Cinnamon Pass. He made me back down a relatively steep incline until I could scoot to my right and allow him to pass. Pulling up next to me, he hopped out of his Cherokee (4" lift at least), took one look at the '01 QX4 and said two things; I wasn't going to make it around the loop with no lift, and that downhill traffic has the right of way (I always thought it was the other way around).

Needless to say I was pretty upset with both statements, and so was my old lady. We turned around and headed out on the 3hr highway drive to Lake City, CO to set up camp. Have any of you fine gentlemen taken this trail before? What is the first step to bringing up the ground clearance on my did-up pathy?

Thanks,

-Cannon

We made it through the Alpine Loop in June 2012 with my stock 04 Pathfinder without any issues
There were a couple of areas where my wife had to get out to help guide me around some rocks. The whole loop took us about 6 hours to finish.

And uphill traffic has right of way, so I don't know what this guy was talking about :gotme

Thanks for the quick reply Chinook. The ol lady thinks (and I agree) that the ranger probably just underestimated my driving skill. We are headed back before the end of the summer.

Park Ranger sounds like an F-face. Uphill has right of way.

Agreed. He gave me the "stupid city boy" attitude. I wouldn't be surprised if he was just trying to get me to go back to Silverton and rent a Jeep.
