QX4 Ballast Replacement

Hi,

The ballast on my 2001 QX4 is blown, and I'm trying to replace it with an aftermarket ebay one because I'm not interested in paying $600 for a new one. I had difficulty finding an OEM one on ebay because mine is the two connector one and they mostly had one connector listings.

So anyway, I need to splice some wires on there and I would like to do it on another wire harness just in case Does anybody know where I can find just the wire harness for the ballast to the headlight? If all goes well I will post a pic tutorial...also if anyone has done this before I would like to hear from you. Thanks!!

BTW I'm open for suggestions on different solutions...ie. if I can find a way to adapt a one connector OEM to a two connector setup etc.

Wires. Anybody? Hard to believe nobody adapted an aftermarket ballast.

Here's an update. Went to take out old ballast and headlight in order to start rewiring them. I figured while I had the ballast out I might as well test it and hook it up to the other headlight. It turned on! I was pissed at my mechanic but happy to find out it wasn't the ballast after all. Then I hooked up the headlight I just took out on the other side's power supply. It turned on. So i just ruled out the light socket or faulty wiring in the headlight as well.

Must be the switch. I hooked everything back up to drive to the dealer, and this time both low beams started working. Now the fog lights were not lol. So I'm even more certain it's the switch. I checked three dealers and none of em had it in stock. It comes out to $130 dollars after taxes which is s***. I'm gonna order a used one off ebay for 30 bucks and report back when I get it hooked up.

My guess is that one of the ballast when bad – I’m not using a book or conventional schematics – I’m also not overly familiar with the car.. But my question relates to the original ballast location from looking at the complete assembly it looks like it’s originally located in the headlight assembly? Is that correct or is supposed to be located somewhere else.. in the mean time I’m going to try and locate a replacement for the conversion.

I have 4 qx4 xenon headlights all with working rectangular ballasts. Bought the sets from my locl junkyard when I was doing my clear and yellow headlight days.

Didnt know the ballasts were such hot commodity maybe I'll take them off and put them up for sale
