QX4 Alarm Issue

So new here and i did search for about an hour and can not find anything similar to my problem... I have a 99 QX4 and i have had it for a long time, and it sat for a while and i know it used to make the horn chirp and hazard lights flash when locking or unlocking and i remembered that holding lock and unlock would reset to silent mode or chirp mode... and i have tried it about 40-50 times, and it will not change modes, it will flash the lights on lock but no lights or horn unlocking or locking... So does anyone have any ideas on why this could be happening? Thanks for any help
