Hi,

I have got the timing belt + water pump + cam shaft seals replaced at Canadian Tire today, they charged me 4.2 for timing belt + water pump and additional 2 hours for cam shaft seals, total of 6.2 hours of labor at 70 CAN, is that fair?

ThanksKami

That's pretty standard. That comes out to be a total bill of around $430 USD which is about right for a timing belt and water pump change. Just call up your Infiniti dealer and see what they would charge - it's gonna be upwards of $1000.

Whoa since when is 433 CAN = 430 USD? I thought the conversion was a larger difference. Must be that slipping dollar. Yeah normal price.

I did it myself and it took about 12 hours, so I'd say 6 for a pro is good.

Just thought to post this update, after one day there was a very bad sound from under the car like a broken CV, turned out to be the exhaust cover damaged and touches the drive shaft when they put the jack, the cover was removed and to garbage by the mechanic, one day later the belt noise started badly, found out the drive belt tensioner was very loose...

its up to you to rate the quality of CT work...

no joke there, my gf's sister had a clutch in her tiburon changed at a tire shop (tires plus) and it was a domino effect of issues that lasted for about 3 weeks and ended up costing over $3k. i know the dealer is gonna charge more but if i have to take it in, that would be my first choice, unless i felt 200% confident with an independent mechanic. engine work isnt something you really wanna fudge on.

well, they are not really a tire shop, Canadian Tire claims to be one of the largest store chain for hardware, auto parts and garage, http://www.canadiantires.ca

although i will not go there ever again for sure.

IMHO, You really need that heat sheild. It was there for a reason. Yeah, sounds like that shop shouldn't be visited again. That's why I started doing work myself. I figured that I could read NICO and the FSM and do as good a job, if not better, as the knuckle head at a shop. I mean after all, I care how the job is done. PLUS, I save money and have pride in what I did.
